Job Description

Researchers at the University of Manchester (PI: Dr Maria Panagioti Co-Is: Dr Helen Brooks, Dr Amy Blakemore, Prof Nusrat Husain, Prof Karina Lovell) in collaboration with the Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PI: Prof Nasim Chaudhry) have been awarded an £3.3 million NIHR Research and Innovation for Global Health Transformation (RIGHT 4) award to undertake an ambitious 4-year research programme to co-adapt and evaluate a better healthcare and rehabilitation programme for people with burn injuries in Pakistan.

The programme seeks to:

  • Co-adapt (with patients, caregivers, clinicians, and service users) a culturally appropriate burns care quality and rehabilitation programme for burn survivors.
  • Evaluate the acceptability, clinical effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of its implementation across Pakistan and to determine its scalability and sustainability.
  • Improve burn prevention and risk assessment and reduce stigma.
  • Build capacity and capability in burn care, prevention and research in Pakistan.

We are seeking to appoint a talented mixed-methods researcher to work on this exciting global health research programme. The post is part-time (0.6 fte) starting from 1st April 2023, for 3 years and 7 months. The role would suit applicants with expertise in mixed method research, including novel digital innovation such as e-mental health and co-creation methods (photovoice), evaluation of culturally appropriate complex mental health interventions and mass/social media campaigns designed for ethnic minorities and/or low and middle-income countries. Post holders will have a strong background in global (mental) health research, mixed method research including qualitative research and novel approaches to intervention development and evaluation (digital innovation such as e-mental health and co-creation) and should have worked closely with Non-Governmental Organisations and stakeholders. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams as part of global health research partnerships.

The post-holder will take a lead in planning and organisation for the study, supported by the Investigators at the University of Manchester (Dr Maria Panagioti, Dr Helen Brooks and Dr Amy Blakemore). There will be opportunities to lead or contribute to paper writing, presenting findings at conferences and leading further funding applications.
