Job Description

UE06: £29,619.00 - £34,308.00 Per Annum, Pro Rata.
College of Science and Engineering / The Bayes Centre.
Open Ended Contract - Permanent; Part Time - 21 Hours Per Week.

We are looking for a Research Development Officer to provide programme and academic support to the Bayes Director of Research. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and coordination of the Bayes Centre Innovation Fellows and Research Seed Funding programmes, will engage with academic colleagues from across the College, and support senior colleagues in the coordination of the emerging Bayes Centre Data-Asset Strategy.

The post-holder will support the Bayes Research Group by providing professional services expertise to the Director of Research in the development of business cases, programme options and opportunities for collaboration to support the growth of research activities in accordance with Bayes Centre strategy. The post-holder will also interact with the tagging and classification of relevant Data-Driven Innovation research awards and support the Bayes Centre’s coordination of the institution’s partnership with the Alan Turing Institute.

These areas of responsibility will require experience in areas of project and budget management, regular interaction with programme participants, interaction with host Schools, academic units, and the maintenance of milestones against programme objectives.

The Bayes Centre is the University of Edinburgh’s innovation hub for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and this broad remit encompasses activities that include education, research, business and investor relationships. You will need to comfortable and effective working as part of a team and independently. The Bayes Centre is a multi-occupancy building with around 650 academic, research, industry and professional services staff, from across the institution and representing lease paying commercial partners. We support the wider contribution to the University’s Data Driven Innovation Programme.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Well-developed skills in planning and management
  • Evidence of team working, working collaboratively with colleagues, business partners and key stakeholders to ensure programme delivery
  • A pro-active approach to process review, with a commitment to the introduction of efficient and suitably lightweight processes, in accordance with College and University expectations
  • Flexible and diplomatic. Comfortable engaging and networking with colleagues at all levels with ability to adapt your communications according to the audience
