The Role

We have two opportunities to join an inspiring education development team in a world class University. We are looking for a creative, people centred colleague who will lead on a variety of education development initiatives. This has significant focus on the design and development of digital education, in partnership with colleagues and students.

Both opportunities will report into our Learning and Teaching Development Service but will have a focus on a particular project with close working relationships in other teams. One role is based in our Lifelong Learning and Apprenticeship Hub and the other working on our Institute of Electrification and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing project.

Lifelong Learning and Apprenticeship Hub
Lifelong learning and professional learning are at the heart of what we do. We offer opportunities to engage in learning at different junctures and in different ways, within education and within speech and language therapy.

For this role, you will provide technical support for the development and delivery of CPD learning materials. You will fulfil commercial CPD contracts and support for academic schools to design online CPD products to be promoted to businesses.

Institute of Electrification and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing
The Institute of Electrification and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (IESAM) is a consortium which will develop a flexible, high-quality Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) training pipeline. The consortium consists of, Newcastle University (Lead partner), the North East Institute of Technology (a partnership of Further Education colleges - led by New College Durham, Newcastle University), NE industry and other universities and colleges in the region.

For this role, the strategic initiatives will encompass the development of digital education intended for a range of academic programmes from FHEQ Level 3 to Level 7, and high quality content suitable for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training.

We are currently working on a hybrid working basis of some campus based and some home-based working.

The posts are available full time, on a three-year fixed term basis and are UKRI Innovate UK funded.

Key Accountabilities
Support academic units and staff engaged in delivering and supporting learning, teaching and assessment, developing their approaches to the use of digital tools and resources in order to support the delivery of a high-quality learner experience
Make a major contribution to the development, approval and implementation of institutional strategy, policy and practice in relation to digital education, and educational development
Managing a portfolio of quality enhancement and educational development activities and projects at institutional, faculty, academic unit and programme levels, in line with University strategies and the LTDS Strategic Plan
Work in partnership with academic and professional services to develop and disseminate innovative and effective approaches to learning and teaching from FHEQ Level 3 to Level 7
Work in partnership with academic, professional services, and external partners to develop and disseminate best practice in CPD training and ensure that materials are suitable for mature learners
Design and deliver a range of staff development as part of LTDS’s Learning and Teaching Development Programme
Manage and supporting the work of steering groups and user groups relating to digital education, and other educational development projects
Write and present reports and papers and making presentations to a variety of audiences (internal and external) to promote, influence and support the development of a high-quality learning, teaching and student experience at Newcastle
Evaluate, and researching into, innovative and effective education practice (including but not limited to digital education)
Managing internal/external projects to support delivery of University and LTDS objectives

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, skills and experience
An up-to-date knowledge of digital education, the use of learning technologies and policy and practice relating to learning and teaching in education
Experience of using digital technologies to support education
Ability to manage and prioritise own workload to solve problems
Demonstrable team working and stakeholder management skills
The ability to investigate and analyse complex data
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write detailed evidence-based reports and to deliver effective staff development workshops and presentations
Ability to become proficient quickly in using new software packages and experience in the use of MS Office to prepare and format documents for publication
Experience of training and developing others and producing user documentation
Knowledge of accessibility and usability issues relating to digital education

Qualifications
University degree or a proven track record working in a transferrable role
