Job Description
Applicants are invited to apply for an ST1 Trust Doctor post in HCOOP at The William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. This post will be fixed term for 12 months.
Within the General and Specialist Medicine Care group is Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Health Care of Older People, Neurology, Renal, Rheumatology, and respiratory departments.
You will have the opportunity to manage a range of acute medical problems and to develop your clinical leadership within these areas. You will have the opportunity to develop clinical skills aligned with acute medicine and to practice them regularly. The department is supportive and keen to aid in the personal development in many fields including teaching, practical skills and quality improvement work as desired by the successful candidate.
The appointee will be responsible for communication and liaison with other medical and service departments within the hospital and with general practitioners and other agencies, such as district nursing and Social Services.

The appointee will be expected to cover for absence of colleagues (including on call cover) at short notice, e.g. sickness. Cover outside the Rota requiring extra hours of work will be paid as additional work at nationally agreed rates and will be coordinated to be compliant with the relevant legislation.
It is expected that the post holder will play an active part in the training of junior medical staff. He/she will also be expected to supervise, educate and assist medical students.
The post holder should take an active part in clinical audit, journal club and departmental teaching sessions. Regular appraisals will occur and the post holder will be expected to take part in CPD.
