Would you like the opportunity to work across and attend trials for Land Equipment and Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME)? Our experienced Land organisation is actively looking for Engineers with working knowledge of safety products and services to join their growing team. You will have the chance to work on a diverse range of Land Equipment and Weapons whilst supporting our Armed Forces. In our Land Engineering Division, we need Junior Safety Engineers involved in the delivery and support within our operations teams across the following areas:
- Weapons – Munitions and weapon systems ranging from small calibre bombs and bullets through to strategic missile systems.
- Land Equipment – Armoured fighting vehicles, self-propelled howitzers, small calibre pistols, through to military “laser quest” systems.
As a Junior Safety Engineer your role will be to provide advice, support, and guidance to internal and external parties. You will be advising on safety issues through engineering design and development, and management of safety risk. You’ll identify solutions to reduce the risk to military personnel on the front line.
Please be advised that due to the nature of security, some of these posts are reserved for sole UK nationals only (some roles will require the successful applicant to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance after starting).
This role may involve domestic travel to other UK sites and the opportunity for international travel.
Responsibilities for Junior Safety Engineer
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Attend trials across Land Equipment and Ordnance Munitions and Explosives (OME)
- Work with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU legislation and regulations, MOD regulations and DE&S Policy
- Support the development and management of Safety Cases at project level
- Provide specialist advice on the application of Safety Management systems
- Produce and contribute to Safety Management Plans
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of policy and process to satisfy the DE&S corporate standards for Safety Management
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Hold a qualification in safety, or a HNC (i.e., Level 4 or higher) qualification in an engineering or science discipline or be able to demonstrate the equivalent experience
- Experience of supporting the delivery of safety products or services, in an engineering environment
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
- Adoption of safety risk management process (Practitioner)
- Application of Analytical techniques (Supervised Practitioner)
- Communicating and influencing
- Changing and improving
