Full time.
Fixed term for 14 weeks.

The University will pay an additional supplement to spine point 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 to align with the Scottish Living Wage rates which, with effect from 1st November 2022, equates to £20,405.

There is an expectation that work will be undertaken in the UK.

This role is not eligible for sponsorship. Applicants require to have existing right to work in the UK.

The Post


The post holder will contribute to all aspects of the summer programmes including planning and taking part in social events and excursions, supporting the student experience, liaising with academic contacts, and carrying out other administrative tasks for the wider team. The intern will work closely with and report to the International Mobility Officers on a day-to-day basis.

The successful candidate will start in May 2023, for a period of 14 weeks, and will need to commit to the full term of this contract.

The hours of work are on average 36 hours per week, with some of these hours taking place during evenings and weekends, dependant on scheduled events.

The successful candidates will be highly motivated, flexible and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Training will be given in all elements of the role.


Description of Duties


Events

  • Contact and book vendors
  • Create invites and attendance lists
  • Accompany students on module trips, day trips and evening events
  • Plan and execute a variety of intern-led activities on and off campus, such as sport sessions, movie nights and mixer events
  • Assist with preparation for orientation weekends and participate in orientation including airport pick ups
  • Work unsociable hours to ensure a positive student experience
  • Create electronic and printed flyers for day trips
  • Compile itineraries for staff and students

General Administration

  • Research and send out weekly “what’s on” emails
  • Design and co-ordinate feedback on the summer programmes and compile suggestions for future planning
  • Assist with the creation of content for social media platforms linked to the summer programmes
  • Create short informational videos for students
  • Compile, manipulate and manage spreadsheets relating to budgets, student lists, feedback and project management
  • Complete other projects as assigned by the ISS team and the Head of International Mobility

Communication

  • Serve as general information resource for students in person and via email
  • Relay any issues or concerns raised by students or tutors to the International Mobility Officer
  • Handle confidential information with sensitivity, adhering to university processes
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Be a leader within large groups
  • Maintain a consistent professional attitude throughout the post

Essential Criteria
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a range of people and different cultures
  • Ability to prioritise effectively when faced with many competing demands in a fast-paced working environment
  • Can work in a team effectively
  • Excellent IT proficiency, including experience with spreadsheets including MS Excel and word processing e.g. MS Word
  • Passion for knowledge and demonstrable interest in Scotland
  • Willingness to work flexible and unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends

Desirable Criteria
  • Experience having lived, worked or studied abroad
  • Experience having lived and travelled around Scotland for work or pleasure and in particular knowledge of Stirling
  • Experience in creating content for social media
  • Interest in exploring the outdoors
  • Knowledge of the higher education environment and in particular study abroad
  • Full UK driving licence

The International Summer School (ISS) runs for eight weeks (3 June – 29 July) and attracts around 120 students each year, mainly from the USA. Students have the option to study for all eight weeks (two blocks) or just for four weeks (one block). Students take half credit modules earning 20 - 40 Stirling credits during their four or eight week period.

The modules offered are from a diverse range of academic areas and include a mix of lectures, small group seminars, field trips and practical sessions. Each course will be assessed and a full University of Stirling transcript will be provided.

Students are housed on campus in single study bedrooms in flats with a shared living room and kitchen facilities. A full programme of airport pick up and drop off, orientations, social events and excursions will be held throughout the summer.

The International English Language School runs a four week programme for University level students (29 July – 25 August). We expect to enrol around 45 students ontothe programme, with the majority coming from our partner institutions in Japan.

The aim ofthe programme is to allow students to improve and practice their English language skills through 20 hours of structure English classes per week, plus afternoon and weekend excursions to allow students to explore Scotland and enjoy cultural experiences including a traditional ceilidh.

Students are housed on-campus in single bedrooms with shared facilities. ; Students can access the University’s facilities during their time on the programme, and airport transfers are provided.
