The Role
The role is responsible for developing and delivering the Maritime Fleet Workforce Training strategy and maintaining a Maritime and HESS training programme to ensure compliance with International, National, and internal policies for Nautical, Technical and HESS training. The overall aim is to reduce the risk of human error through effective training of our personnel. This role will ensure that training plans and activities support the requirements of the CUK fleet which aids and enables success.
The post holder is accountable for the delivery of a Maritime Fleet Training Plan and financial forecast that leads to continuous improvement and meets the requirements of both CUK and ABG.
The role also acts as the Training quality assurance lead for Maritime Training.
As the lead for Maritime & HESS Training, the role holder will co-ordinate maritime expertise to ensure that the Maritime training portfolio is relevant, meets internal and external requirements and is delivered effectively.
Accountabilities include:
- Develop, maintain and deliver a Maritime Training Plan and financial forecast that delivers continuous improvement and meets the requirements of both CUK and ABG.
- Co-ordinate maritime expertise to ensure that the Maritime training portfolio is relevant, meets internal and external requirements and is delivered effectively.
- Manage and control the Maritime Training budget (c £2-3m), identifying risks and opportunities and understanding variance to forecast.
- In conjunction with the Fleet People Operations Training Compliance team, ensure CUK ships are staffed with appropriately qualified and competent personnel.
- Work collaboratively with the CUK’s Training Governance team to ensure the Maritime Training strategy is supported and all training activities are effectively documented.
- Maintain oversight of the Maritime Training Curriculum – HESS, Deck and Technical – and ensure that any new internal or external training requirements are captured through the Training Governance process.
- Be the SME and POC for new training requirements, issuing HESS updates and Tier 3 instructions as required.
Our role categories range from CUK15 (entry level) to CUK1 (Brand President) so you can clearly see internal development opportunities. This role is a CUK07 and is offered on a full time, permanent contract basis, with at least two days based in our Southampton office.

- Experience of Learning Management Systems and blended learning.
- Planning and project management skills.
- Qualifications – desirable:
- STCW Deck or Technical qualification
- Leadership and Management qualification
