Reading Recovery Teacher/Teaching Assistant
Empowering Learning are looking for a Reading Recovery Teacher to support in a Secondary school in Bolton. The desired candidate will have experience working within an English department with students across KS3 and KS4. This is a full-time role (37 hours per week) and hours would be 8:30-3:15 Monday - Friday. This position is likely to continue until the end of the Academic year in July 2023.
Outline of duties include:
- Teach a minimum of four children, in the required age range (KS3, KS4), individually for 30 minutes daily in school.
- Teach a daily group literacy/phonics intervention
- Maintain careful and clear records on each child.
- Maintain close and regular links with the class teachers of children receiving RR, to ensure that progress is maintained, and independence promoted in whole-class lessons.
- Maintain links with Reading Recover training providers in the region, so that professional practice can be reviewed, updated, and refreshed as and when required.
- Communicate with parents/carers on their role in the programme, so that parents are fully engaged and supportive.
- Plan for the ‘exit’ from the programme and support teachers in monitoring the ongoing progress of children who have benefited from the RR programme
- Share knowledge and expertise with other teachers and teaching assistants to support staff professional development
- Support the school in identifying other additional intervention programmes to be provided and support the delivery of additional lighter touch ‘layered’ interventions provided by teaching assistants or trained volunteers.
