English Teacher at Denstone College (Full time)
Starting from September 2023.
The English Department is one of the largest in the College, currently comprising six full-time and two part-time members of staff. A majority of GCSE students will complete both the Language and Literature courses and our results are strong, with 44% achieving grades 7-9 in GCSE English Literature and 50% achieving 7-9 in GCSE English Language over the past three years. We also run a popular A Level programmes in English Literature, with 89% of candidates achieving B grades or better over the past three years and 47% gaining an A*/A grade. A Level English Language has also recently been added to Sixth Form curriculum.

The students at Denstone are motivated and keen to succeed. We regularly run theatre trips, public speaking and debating competitions and a student newspaper to extend learning beyond the curriculum. Tookey’s, the English teaching block, provides the department with exceptional teaching and learning facilities, including interactive SMART boards and visualisers in every room. We frequently access the College library to support learning. It is a stunning facility offering a world-class study environment.
What can you offer us?
We are actively seeking a well-qualified and inspirational full time English teacher for September 2023.
The successful candidate will be able and willing to teach the subject across all year groups, with the possibility of involvement in either or both A Level courses alongside our GCSE programme and teaching in younger years. This position will ideally suit someone with a strong academic track record, a passion for the subject and an ambition to gain experience in a successful school with the very highest standards and expectations. The successful candidate will be hard-working, demonstrate strong collaborative skills, and have the drive to develop their own teaching skills as well as to share good practice with colleagues. This opportunity is open to both Early Career Teachers and experienced teachers.
This position will involve teaching a full academic timetable (currently 27 x 40 minute periods per week) across the Denstone teaching week (including some Saturday morning lessons). All full-time staff at Denstone serve as house tutors and also make a commitment to the school’s extra-curricular programme: a willingness to be involved in such activities will be advantageous.
