Job Description
What’s it all about?
Visa Payments Limited is an FCA regulated company within the Visa group and plays a key role in the expansion of Visa Direct which enables users to send and receive money efficiently, securely and seamlessly to billions of endpoints globally.
The Visa Payments Legal team is responsible for proactively managing legal & regulatory risk and providing advice and support to all areas of the Visa Payments business.
The team is part of the Visa Payments organisation, which operates with its own governance and controls, within Visa’s framework, and sits within the Global Visa Legal team, working closely with colleagues across the globe.
What we expect of you, day to day.
The role will report to the Senior Lawyer who heads up our commercial legal function at Visa Payments and will be responsible for:

Providing legal advice and support to the Visa Payments business across a wide range of regulatory matters and projects.

Identifying data protection and other regulatory issues, liaising with internal and external specialists where necessary.

Identifying the need for external legal advice and engaging and managing outside counsel on a range of issues.

Supporting our legal strategy and recognising the strategic connections between matters, working pro-actively to ensure these are given appropriate attention for the benefit of the Visa group and its overall management of legal risk.

Engaging with clients, partners and regulators to develop, strengthen, convey and protect Visa’s regulatory positions

Managing day-to-day legal queries and allocated business initiatives, taking the lead on all relevant legal activities.

Developing, managing and maintaining relationships to facilitate the effective delivery of legal support working with other Visa departments across the globe to ensure full alignment with business needs and policies.

Providing training, to identified business areas, on law, processes and policies.

Proactively contributing to the Legal & Regulatory Division’s planning, cohesion, consistency in advice, and the general efficiency and effectiveness of the division as a whole.

Supporting Commercial division where required – drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts with clients, network partners and suppliers.
Qualifications
What we’re after…
- Qualified lawyer with demonstrable experience of regulatory law, especially payments law
- Strong academics and training, including legal drafting and regulatory positioning, and relationship management
- Good understanding of working in an in-house environment
- Appreciation of cross-border and multi-jurisdictional transactions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Previous experience of working within a technology and digital legal environment
- An active interest in improving the delivery of legal services within a large organisation and a record of successfully driving
