Do you have what it takes to 'Step Up' to Social Work?
Social work is both a challenging and rewarding career. You will need to build relationships with individuals facing difficult times, show a lot of patience and be a good listener. You will also need good observational skills, analytical thinking and sound judgement to make the right decisions . Social work regularly tests resilience, stamina, and resolve - all of which you will need to succeed. Social work can be life changing for those you support.
The Step Up Programme
This nationwide programme seeks to increase the number of excellent social workers working in Local Authorities. Since 2010, Step Up has successfully supported over 2,300 social workers to enter the profession, who may not have otherwise been able to access social worker training. The Isle of Wight Council is part of the South Coast regional partnership.
This intensive, 14-month, full-time programme is for any graduate without a degree in social work who would like to become a social worker. Students can expect to learn through a combination of academic study and real social work experience in a local authority. On completion, the Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work will enable graduates to register and practice as a social worker.
The 'Step Up' programme runs every two years and applications for the 2024 programme are open from Friday 17 February 2023.
