Building Operations Assistant Role Profile
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Library Service’s team for a part-time Building Operations Assistant. The post holder will play a key role in the van delivery service of Plymouth Public Library Service and Plymouth Schools Library Service.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible member of the team who will assist with day-to-day van deliveries across the city, delivering library materials and moving other items such as furniture, and, on occasion, supporting the work of other Council departments. Based at Library HQ, Burrington Way, the post holder will be responsible for making van deliveries to our 11 libraries and over fifty subscribing schools.
The role therefore involves considerable ongoing physical effort e.g. frequent lifting and carrying of crates and boxes of books.
The post holder will also assist with some minor maintenance tasks across our library estate, as well as daily safety checks of the library vehicles. The post holder will:
- Be confident driving vehicles up to the size of a 3.5 ton Luton van
- Be confident carrying out minor maintenance tasks
- Be confident working as part of a team and also independently using their own initiative
- Have excellent communication skills to engage with customers and partners
- Have excellent planning and organisation skills
- Be flexible and adaptable
We expect the post holder to take up the position from 1 April 2023.
This role is suitable for flexible working subject to the needs of the service.
