Principal Pharmacist- Lead for Pharmacoeconomics and High Cost Drugs Management - Band 8b

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Senior Pharmacist to lead and manage the High Cost Drugs and Pharmacoeconomics Service for NBT. You will be working collaboratively across the Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire ICB and with regional NHS England specialist commissioning partners.
There is an opportunity for flexible working and we will consider applications for full-time and part-time applications with a minimum requirement of 0.8 wte.

The primary role of the Principal Pharmacist, Pharmacoeconomics and High Cost Drugs Management is to work effectively to lead and manage the High Cost Drugs and Pharmacoeconomic service for NBT providing an effective interface between NHS England and NBT. The post holder will be responsible for delivering efficiencies and ensuring best value in line with National initiatives and BNSSG Formulary, whilst ensuring that the financial reporting to Commissioners meets the required specification.
We are a large pharmacy department with over 80 pharmacists including many Specialist posts. The clinical ward pharmacy service is well established and provided by pharmacist and medicine management technicians. The post holder will input into the clinical service, including weekend working at NBT. As part of the new hospital we have a very modern pharmacy department including the largest dispensing robot in Europe.

The main responsibilities of the role are: -
- Through effective leadership and management be responsible for the delivery and ongoing development of the Pharmacoeconomics Service and High Cost Drugs Management. This will be achieved through established and innovative practices
- To develop and maintain an effective interface between commissioners and providers of services within Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) working closely with BNSSG ICB, NHS England Specialised Commissioning, University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust
- To develop and deliver efficiencies and ensuring best value regarding the use of high costs medicines in accordance with Commissioner project plans
- To maximise the cost-effective use of high cost drugs (HCD), delivering efficiencies and ensuring best value, through engagement with clinical teams and divisional leads, supporting prior approval processes, ensuring appropriate usage, and supporting audit of NICE drugs and those excluded from the National Tariff
- To support the business planning and contracting process for high cost drugs
- With the team you manage, identify and action drug savings for the Trust and ensure that financial intelligence is provided on a regular basis
- To ensure that those treatments supported by NICE Technology Appraisals and Clinical Commissioning Policies are implemented according to the published recommendations and local commissioning arrangements
- Ensures that the Pharmacy service is provided in compliance with Medicines Legislation, the Code of Ethics of the General Pharmaceutical Council and Trust policies and procedures
