The School of Geography at the University of Nottingham invites applications for a Research Technician to support work within the multi-institutional NERC–ESRC project ‘Developing a new co-designed decision support tool for biodiversity credits and investment’ (http://gotw.nerc.ac.uk/list_full.asp?pcode=NE%2FX00208X%2F1). The project aims to produce a scientific underpinning for, and help develop, the world's first biodiversity credit standards (i.e. standards for assigning investable and tradeable economic value to biodiversity). The post holder will assist in the collection of a range of field data at the Attenborough Reserve, Nottinghamshire, and Knepp Estate, Sussex, conduct laboratory analyses, and assist in data entry, management, analysis and write-up. The post holder will be based at and will work under the direct supervision of colleagues at the University of Nottingham and in close collaboration with colleagues from across the project team, including industrial and third sector partners (e.g. Plan Vivo Foundation, NatureMetrics LtD).

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Ecology, Geography, Biology, Environmental Sciences or related field or equivalent qualification or experience, and a keen interest in biodiversity conservation. They will have experience in ecological fieldwork (e.g. UK habitat surveys, surveys of plant, insect and/or bird species) and laboratory work (e.g. water quality analysis). They will have skills in the taxonomic identification of species, basic laboratory skills (e.g. pipetting, following protocols), basic IT and data management skills, and an interest in developing further skills pertaining to environmental and biodiversity monitoring.

We positively encourage applications from members of groups who are currently underrepresented in the department, for example women and people from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds. We are also supportive of requests for flexible working and keen to support those with caring responsibilities.

This is a part time 28.13 hour (0.75 FTE), fixed term post until 11 August 2025.

Candidates are asked to apply with their CV and a cover letter detailing their motivation and suitability for the role.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Richard Field, Richard.field@nottingham.ac.uk, and Alexandra Zieritz, Alexandra.zieritz@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to these email addresses will not be accepted.
