Job Title: Intelligence Analyst
Salary: £32,194 to £34,452 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £32,194 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £34,452 will be via incremental progression. Some positions may attract a 12.5% Shift Disturbance Allowance
Location: Multiple locations across London and a number of roles.

That’s why we need to increase our team of Intelligence Analysts. We’re after people who can spot clues that aren’t obvious, who realise not everything is what it seems, and who know that not all weapons look the same.
As one the world’s leading police service, we investigate some of the most complex, high-profile cases anywhere. You’ll join our investigative and operational analytical teams and will start identifying connections in information and developing intelligence to tackle crime. It’s about collecting, exploiting, assessing and interpreting a range of overt and covert information sources and delivering valuable, influential analysis to tackle threat, risk and harm in London.
Falling under the umbrella of Met Intelligence, you will be an embedded intelligence analyst within an established analytical team, working alongside MPS officers and External Partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your flexibility and creativity are key, as is a keen interest in data analysis and exploitation. You’ll play a vital role in a multi-faceted team, so you will need strong collaboration and negotiation skills, plus a talent for communicating clearly and succinctly. As a natural problem-solver, you’ll prioritise and identify issues and make quick, sound decisions.
Crucially, you’ll be someone who can build the bigger picture from the tiny nuggets of intelligence you’ll unearth. The closer you can focus on the fine details, the sooner you’ll unlock the data that locks criminals away and the better we’ll protect over eight million people.
Key Tasks
- Utilise a range of analytical techniques to provide insight into themes and trends across crime types, identifying current, evolving and emerging threat, risk and harm
- Compile analytical products from a range of sources; identifying and interpreting intelligence gaps, drawing inferences and generating recommendations to support decision making on a tactical and strategic level.
- Negotiate terms of reference with customers to ensure that the product meets their needs
- Produce written or verbal briefings to stakeholders to provide a clear and concise evidence-based understanding of the subject matter
- Monitor and evaluate the significance of patterns and trends relating to crime and offenders in support of decision making around prioritisation and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with both internal and external partners to ensure access to a rich intelligence source to develop a greater understanding of the crime picture
- Prepare and present analytical products for use in court proceedings, as required.
- Adhere to all legal frameworks, key working principles, polices and guidance relevant to the role.
- Potential requirement to support corporate initiatives and critical operational requirements, which may involve working from alternate locations and outside existing responsibilities
Who / what we’re looking for
Essential Criteria
- Interested in Personal Development - You must currently hold GCSE Maths and English Grade C and above (or equivalent and be able provide certification) and be excited about undertaking additional learning on the job
- Analytical thinking skills - A creative, open-minded problem solver with a passion for working in policing and intelligence
- Communication Skills – A strong ability to present your work in a clear and concise written format, as well as deliver your findings verbally to a variety of audiences
- IT Literacy - Excellent IT skills, including a high level of experience and interest in working with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Honesty and Integrity - The ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity, discretion and confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Strong Interpersonal skills - The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff and officers of all levels, as well as external partners, promoting a positive and professional image of the MPS
- Initiative -The capability to use your own initiative, manage your own workload but also work as part of a team
- Flexibility - A flexible approach to working hours and locations where business need dictates
- Adaptability - The ability to work within a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of working in a similar environment would be desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided
- Understanding of relevant legislation, corporate IT systems and policies appropriate to role and their use (including Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and Management of Police Information)
- Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model
- Familiarity with the practice of intelligence gathering and understanding of associated techniques, legislation and codes of practice
Additional information
All successful applicants will be required to attain the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Accreditation for Analysts – this will be achieved by completing the Level 4 Intelligence Analyst Apprenticeship during your working hours.
