Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Single Point of Access/Emotional Wellbeing Service, to provide clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team and to lead on psychological care pathways development. This is a great opportunity for you if you are enthusiastic about developing your leadership skills in mental health services and improving pathways of care for people accessing mental health services in Sheffield.

The Single Point of Access Service is a multi-disciplinary team, which provides a first point of contact for people aged 18-65 in Sheffield who are experiencing a crisis in their mental health. The service plays an important role in providing comprehensive triage and assessment with the aim to streamline referrals to mental health services. Following assessment, the Emotional Wellbeing Team also provides a range of mental health interventions, which includes psychological interventions.

It is an interesting time to be working within Sheffield as we are leading the way nationally in testing new ways of providing mental health interventions in primary care for adults with severe mental illness and complex needs. As part of this community transformation programme, the postholder will work alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologist to help develop the Single Point of Access and Emotional Wellbeing Service offer alongside the new Primary Care Community Mental Health Teams.

To lead on psychological care pathways development, using best evidence and co-production to create effective, trauma informed, patient pathways. To provide clinical leadership within the Single Point of Access and Emotional Wellbeing service, working in collaboration with the leadership team responsible for governance and clinical practice. To provide specialist assessments and interventions at the same time as offering highly specialised advice and consultation on service users’ psychological care to psychological, non-psychological colleagues and to others e.g. non-professional carers.

To provide clinical supervision to psychologists/psychotherapists, other professionals within the team and trainees on placements. The postholder will be responsible alongside the wider leadership team for the co–ordination, organisation and performance management of the work of other psychologists/psychotherapists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

Within the role you will benefit from working alongside a large number of psychology colleagues across adult mental health services. We encourage opportunities for support and continuing professional development and have very close links with the Clinical Psychology Doctoral training. Sheffield is a fantastic place to live; it has a close proximity to the beautiful Peak District, it has diverse cultural & sporting opportunities and reasonable house prices.

If you're interested in developing your career, you'll have access to a range of training and education opportunities, including apprenticeships, work experience and placements, as well as the chance to get involved in research.

We are all very proud of the difference we make to people's lives each and every day and if that's something that you'd like to be part of we'd love to have you with us.

To provide highly specialist mental health assessments of service users referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the person’s care.

To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a service user’s difficulties, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the person’s problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across a full range of care settings.

To co-ordinate/lead the systematic governance of clinical practice within the psychological therapists/psychological practice of other team members developing and collecting relevant measures of outcome and audit, and to provide consultation to other health and social care professionals to enable them to develop their own effective systems of governance.

To take oversight of the psychological needs of the staff team (e.g. specialist supervision, training, reflective practice, team formulation) and to participate in delivering and planning systems and process by which those needs can be met in order to maximise team wellbeing, cohesion and effectiveness.
