Job Description
Applications are open for one Clinical Research Practitioner (CRP) to join our research team for 12 months to support delivery of research within Gynaecology and other specialties.
For the purposes of brevity the term clinical research practitioner (CRP) is used to represent all health professionals working in a patient facing role in clinical research and includes nurses (all branches), midwives, allied health professionals, clinical scientists and clinical research practitioners on the relevant Academy of Healthcare Sciences register or CRPs working towards registration.The post is therefore open to all research health professionals.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in research, on both industry and academic studies or will be an experienced healthcare practitioner looking to embark on a career in research.
This post would be suitable as a secondment opportunity.
In addition to assisting clinicians and other members of the research team, you will support research participants throughout the research process ensuring the well-being and safety of patients at all times. You will perform study related procedures, including participant assessment, informed consent, clinical examinations and reporting adverse events. The post holder will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability and initiative to work independently and manage a patient caseload across a variety of trials & studies. You will be required to prioritise your own workload and be responsible for the management of a caseload of clinical trial patients.
You will be required to work autonomously and will also be responsible for identifying new research opportunities, coordinating and managing a number of clinical trials.
The post holders will also be required to work across specialties depending on portfolio requirements.

The Trust has multiple hospital sites and the successful post holder could work in any or all of them. We have a new Clinical Research Facility based in Outpatients in Sandwell General Hospital, which includes clinic rooms, newly fitted with technology for virtual clinic attendance, a procedure room and a research laboratory.
In 2024 the Trust will open the brand newMidland Metropolitan University Hospitalwhich will further enhance opportunities to expand our research.
- To maintain and protect the patients’ interests at all times in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and all other applicable regulatory requirements and relevant Councils’ Code of Conduct.
- To assist in screening and recruitment of patients into clinical research studies, within set competencies as agreed with the senior nurse and Principal Investigator.
- To display and maintain a good understanding of study protocols and amendments, acting as a resource of information to wards, colleagues, clinicians and other research support services across the Trust on study specific information.
- To work closely with and support members of the research team, Principal Investigators and clinical staff with the conduct of each study within set competencies.
- To maintain Good Clinical Practice in the conduct of the study.
- To support the clinician in ensuring patients fully understand the study and their agreement to consent is voluntary and they are able to withdraw at any time.
