Job Title: Charity Shop Assistant Manager
Salary: Grade 2c (£20925.00 per annum)
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Location: Age UK North Yorkshire Coast and Moors Charity Shop, 17 Belle Vue
Street, Filey, N. Yorkshire, YO14 9HY
Purpose of the role:
To support the Shops Manager in providing a high-quality retail service to maximise income through retail sales for the charity and achieve agreed performance targets. To oversee and ensure the continued operation of the shop in collaboration with the Shops Manager.
Overseeing the scheduling, management of staff and support of the shop volunteers. Ensure customers, colleagues and clients receive exemplary service at all times when visiting an Age UK North Yorkshire Coast and Moors location.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Support, train, develop and co-ordinate the work of staff and volunteers in the shop whilst encouraging an active interest in the work of Age UK North Yorkshire Coast and Moors
- Be a role model for the shops team, create a positive environment where staff and volunteers feel valued and motivated
- Provide a work environment free of all forms of discrimination, harassment, where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and fairness
Sales and income
- Maximise shop income and achieve agreed financial performance targets including sales, pricing and stock rotation
- Awareness of competitors pricing, promotional activities and special offers so as to be able to inform the Shops Manager and ensure we have a similar or more competitive offer available for our customers
- Implement and promote the highest standards of customer care and service
Premises
- Ensure shop premises are clean and tidy at all times and that goods are displayed in a presentable and commercial manner
- Ensure all statutory responsibilities are met, including Fire and Health & Safety regulations
- Hold shop keys, opening and closing the premises for trading hours and responding to emergency call outs if and when necessary
Stock
- Generate stock donations to meet sales requirements, acknowledge receipt and arrange collections where necessary
- Maintain an effective, profitable merchandise mix, reflecting customer profile and seasonality trends
Administration
- Oversee and undertake administrative and financial procedures as directed by the Shops Manager including sales information, banking and volunteer records
- Ensure security of stock and cash on the premises, report any shortfalls or discrepancies to the Shops Manager or the central office in their absence
Other
- Works closely with the Shops Manager to ensure any problems in the shop are resolved quickly and effectively
- Undertake any appropriate duties as directed by the Shops Manager to achieve performance targets and realise the full potential of the shop
- Travel within the North Yorkshire area where required in the performance of the job to provide covering another shop, or for training activities or company meetings
Essential Criteria
Experience
- Previous experience gained in a retail/customer centric environment
- Effective communicator with ability to deliver team messages, assist customers with their enquiries and resolve any issues that may arise
- Basic knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and ability to identify potential risks
Role requirements
- Flexible approach to work with occasional requirement to work additional days to cover holidays, sickness or participate in trading outside of normal hours
- Processing stock deliveries regularly requires lifting and moving of heavy bags – essential to undertake reasonable lifting duties
- On occasions may be required to work on own within shop in accordance with the Lone Working Policy
