Job Title: Caretaker
Responsible to: Estates Manager
Salary: £21,803 - £24,517 CST pay spine points S17-21
Working Pattern: Full time, 37.5 hours per week, 1.0 FTE. See below
Start Date: As soon as possible, likely January 2023
Working Pattern
We have three shift patterns:
6.30am - 2.30pm - position currently filled
9.00am - 5.00pm - position open
2.00pm - 10.00pm - position open
We are looking to recruit caretakers to cover the 9.00am - 5.00pm and 2.00pm - 10.00pm shift patterns.
We have two job roles available, one permanent role and one role on a 2 year fixed term basis with the possibility the role could be made permanent at that point.
Purpose of the role
To embrace the mission and values of Cathedral Primary School and Bristol Cathedral Choir Schools, by ensuring that our site and buildings remain secure, safe and well maintained for our staff and students.
Every caretaking post at Bristol Cathedral Choir School (BCCS) and Cathedral Primary School (CPS) must embrace the following responsibilities.
Core Responsibilities, as part of the wider estates team:
● Maintain the security of Bristol Cathedral Choir School (BCCS), Cathedral Primary
School (CPS) and St George's buildings, by:
- Locking and unlocking school buildings
- Undertaking regular security checks and identifying security risks
- Monitoring fire safety equipment and carrying out fire drills
- Operating and responding to alarm systems where appropriate, outside of school’s day to day requirements
- Undertaking caretaking duties and associated clerical tasks in respect of lettings
- Provide emergency access to the school site if required
- Escorting unwanted individuals off school site if safe to do so
● Undertake general maintenance at BCCS and CPS school sites, St George’s and
Failand buildings to include:
- Undertaking appropriate repairs e.g. redecorating and fixing
- Undertaking minor / simple repairs e.g. minor plumbing, changing light bulbs, unblocking drains.
- Carrying out various maintenance duties to ensure the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises is satisfactory.
- Undertaking minor improvement works e.g. Erecting shelves, noticeboards etc. as agreed with the site manager
- Assisting with routine inspections of the buildings, fixtures / fittings and grounds
- Identifying defects and record any repair and maintenance requirements
- Undertaking cleaning duties such as the removal of graffiti, litter picking, emptying of external bins and cleaning / clearing of spillages
- Undertaking minor grounds works such as weeding pathways, leaf clearance or any other grounds works that may be required or directed by the site manager
- Ensuring that satisfactory levels of caretaking, cleanliness and hygiene are achieved and maintained through the whole of the premises
- Collecting and distributing deliveries/ parcels to departments
- Undertaking general light maintenance and cleaning of the school mini buses
● Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Complying with health and safety policies and procedures at all times
- Promoting and ensuring the health and safety of pupils, students, staff and visitors at all times (in line with the appropriate health and safety legislation)
- Ensuring that you take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions and to comply with all health and safety legislation as appropriate.
● General computer use to include
- Reading, actioning, printing and replying to emails.
- Using the in house maintenance logging system
- Logging, updating & listing in Word and Excel
- Checking of events and school calendars
● To carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.
General Responsibilities, as part of the wider estates team:
● Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
● Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school and Trust
● Appreciate and support the role of other professionals
● Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as directed
