WHAT TO EXPECT
The Materials Engineering and Product Sustainability group reside in Interiors in Body Engineering but support all of Product Development/JLR.
The successful candidate will lead a group of 10 managers, with a total department size of ~100 people which includes significant laboratory facilities and with teams based in the West Midlands, Halewood, Budapest, India and China.
The department is a key chapter for PD and supports approximately 50/50 on/off cycle activities.

- Metallics, corrosion, paint and adhesives
- Polymers and coatings
- Soft trim
- Fasteners
- Cosmetic quality
- Hazardous materials
- CAE characterisation
- CAE structural mechanics
- Sustainability
In your role you’ll:
- Lead the engineering sustainability roadmap is a key accountability, ensuring that the wider PD community is engaged and equipped to support our net zero ambition in addition to developing and decarbonising our materials

Engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders (see key interactions) to support the full breadth of programme delivery, from pre-KO / research actives through to volume build and warranty support

Enable the delivery of modern luxury and next generation BEV architectures through the introduction of a wide range of new materials

Lead and support a highly technical team

Lead the development and implementation of technology roadmaps with commodity teams

Lead the creation, application and continuous improvement of Standards, Requirements and Test Procedures related to materials, fasteners, cosmetic quality, sustainability and methods, ensuring this is completed through the relevant digital toolset

Be accountable for the implementation and quality of accompanying CAE methods and tools that characterise the behaviour of materials and joints as well as process simulation support

Deliver a wide range of new materials ensuring they meet demanding internal and external requirements whist ensuring our sustainability goals are achieved

Ensure all regulatory requirements for hazardous materials and substances of very high concern are covered by clear requirements, monitored throughout the product creation and delivery system, and approved by FEC for all programmes

Ensure the laboratories have both the required equipment and skilled resource to offer an extensive suite of testing and characterisation for new material development and failure analysis

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Essential:

Significant experience and knowledge in the field of Materials Engineering, Sustainability and the application in the automotive sector

Experience and track record in people development and team management

Experience in strategy development and deployment

Knowledge of engineering delivery processes

Confident communicator at all levels (including the Board of Management)

Proven ability to lead a resolution of the key technical issues within a team environment
Desirable:
- Experience in managing departmental budgets

Relevant degree or equivalent experience
