Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant - Aspiring Child Development Psychologist Brentwood
Location: Brentwood
Salary Scale: £80-£90 per day
Start Date: ASAP or 27/02/2023
End Date: Mid July 2023 with the opportunity to extend in September 2023

Can you demonstrate the value of an education to the children you will be working with?
A child could declare elements or thoughts on their own Gender or Sexual identity for example, could you show that you can keep them safe?
Do you know your reasons for wanting to work in the SEN and Mental Health Sectors? Knowing where your sincerity comes from is key, it will be the foundations of everything you do!
GSL are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support children with Special Educational Needs, social, emotional, and mental health challenges, traumas, and associated challenging behaviours. Some children / young people will have suffered adverse childhood experiences, and you will identify their risks and needs, escalating where necessary. You will be joining a friendly, energetic, and creative team! Working within an Autistic Mental Health or Trauma setting is incredibly challenging, together, we will qualify and disqualify the sectors for yourself, ensuring we are focused on the right ones for you.
The provision in Brentwood focuses on employing graduates and no graduates, it’s the sincerity of candidates that they are looking for. The school has a range of SEN and Mental Health needs, ranging from high functioning autism to very low level, cognitive ability.
The level of vulnerability of some of the children, when they trust you, will likely lead to them declaring personal information that will be classified as Safe Guarding – These roles are very challenging, being ready to listen to your students as they declare just how they have been let down by the adult world, is a key aspect to building trust before you focus on their academics.
As a SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will have the opportunity to ‘get your foot in the door’ and work closely with the therapists, enabling you to expand your knowledge, skillset, and gain relevant practical experience, which is invaluable for you, as an Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist. Also, an ideal opportunity for aspiring Education Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Child Development and Speech and Language Therapists.
A common feature for many children and young people with special educational needs is marginalisation and disadvantage, trauma, dysfunctional family relationships, low educational attainment, and stigmatisation. Subsequently they face many barriers in life and are more ‘at risk’ of negative outcomes. You will be instrumental in providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life.
