Job description

Applications are welcomed from candidates experienced in working within a laboratory environment, as well as from those willing to undergo training in the acquisition of digital devices. The role holder must be prepared to self-develop their technical skillset to maintain knowledge and awareness of the changing digital forensic landscape.

You will be provided all the training you need to take apart any computer or mobile phone then extract the data from them for use as evidence. Your role and knowledge will need to be continually updated in line with advances in technology where you will be provided with external formally recognised qualifications/accreditations, attend national seminars, bespoke in house training and provided time to self-develop with research on forums and webinars.
This is the start of your digital forensic career and we will actively support your progress within our Digital Forensic Laboratories where roles are available at all levels up to senior management.

***All NCA officers must hold SC Enhanced upon entry as a minimum. To meet the National Security Vetting requirements for this role you will need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 out of the past 5 years. For more information please see the Candidate information Pack***

Person specification

Main Responsibilities

  • To be the first point of contact for the lab, dealing with customer enquiries, liaising between investigating officers and lab examiners, providing advice and the handling of exhibits
  • Ensure the integrity and continuity of exhibits by handling, booking in and documentation, in line with agency policy
  • To triage computer devices using specialist software
  • Secure and acquire data from computer and mobile devices using specialist hardware and software; in accordance with the ACPO principles, CPIA and ISO 17025 accreditation standards.
  • Active involvement in the quality management process, validation, testing, and maintenance of hardware and software in the furtherance of operational delivery and compliance with overarching ISO/IEC 17025 requirements;
  • The recording/retention of case material for prosecution purposes in line with CPIA;
  • To complete evidential reports and attend court
