Job Description
To direct the security agenda; operational, training and governance, across Nottinghamshire Healthcare Forensics Division, which includes High, Medium and Low secure inpatient services, Community placed services and Offender Health across a large geographical location. The post-holder will direct a department of clinical and non-clinical staff that provides a wide range of services both across the breadth of forensic operations but also operational security services within our High Secure Hospital and Medium and Low secure facilities . The post-holder will perform the role ofDirector of Securityas identified within the High Secure Hospitals Safety and Security Directions. The regime at Rampton Hospital is such that the tolerance for error in risk management is minimal.
The Director of Security Services will set the security services strategic development and delivery agenda, including the Forensics Security Strategy, as agreed by the Executive Director of Forensic Services and the Trust Board and will support with guidance for the wider trust estates
The post-holder has an essential leadership role during major incidents, with responsibilities directly to support the Emergency, Preparedness, Response and Resilience when required, to ensure and preserve the security integrity of Trust services.
The Director of Security reports to the Executive Director of Forensic Services and has a direct line of report and accountability to the Trust Chief Executive.
TheDirector of Security will be responsible for providing a range of security related support services including access and egress controls, Staff and Visitor search functions, (including Reception and Switchboard arrangements); the Hospital Control Room with CCTV, perimeter detection and other technological systems. The provision of an escort service for contractors providing maintenance and major and minor capital schemes within the secure part of the Hospital’s ensuring that this work does not negatively impact on the security of the Hospitals.
The Director of Security is required to provide an electronic Security Intelligence System, and the provision of a monthly security intelligence report for Rampton Hospital and ensure system are in place to gain intelligence across the forensic division.
The role incorporates the role of liaison with partner organisations and services such as Police, Fire and Ambulance, and the National Offender Management Service and Prison Service.
The Director of Security Services is also required to regularly brief the Trust Board through the provision of a quarterly Security Report. The post holder is also required to represent the Trust in the role of Director of Security for Rampton Hospital at the Clinical Security Practice Forum, a sub-group of the National Oversight Group (NOG) and produce briefing and status reports as required.

The Director of Security Services role requires a professional educated to Masters degree level or equivalent who has prior executive/senior level general management experience within healthcare provision. The post-holder must have operational management experience of working within and across forensic mental health healthcare services and have a sound operational and developmental understanding of the Security Management Service arrangements for the NHS.
The post-holder will be an integral member of the senior leadership team within the forensic division and support Rampton Hospital directorate management team, and will take leadership of projects, schemes and defined work-streams as agreed with the Executive Director of Forensic Services, that may or may not be reflected within the job description.
Knowledge of specialist security systems and general security principles together with an excellent knowledge base of mental health law will be essential. Strategic and operational leadership to an executive level is essential. There will be a need to direct, lead, develop and motivate a team of senior clinical and non-clinical managers responsible for providing consistent and comprehensive security services and security advice to clinical teams.
In fulfilling theDirector of Securityresponsibilities for the forensic division with a specific focus on High Secure Services at Rampton Hospital, the Director of Security Services will be responsible for providing a range of security related support services including access and egress controls, Staff and Visitor search functions, (including Reception and Switchboard arrangements); the Hospital Control Room with CCTV, perimeter detection and other technological systems. The post holder is also required to provide oversight and directive leadership for the integration of Information Technology into the forensic service clinical environments, patient access and use of Information Technology, and mobility working for clinical staff.
The Director of Security is required to provide an electronic Security Intelligence System, and the provision of a monthly security intelligence report for Rampton Hospital and ensure system are in place to gain intelligence across the forensic division.
The Director of Security Services incorporates the role of liaison with partner organisations and services such as Police, Fire and Ambulance, and the National Offender Management Service and Prison Service.
Security training is also directed by the Director of Security Services. This is provided across the Clinical Security Liaison Nurses at Rampton Hospital and directorate security teams within the division.
