Job Description

We are delighted to announce that a Nursery Nurse opportunity has come available within the KMPT Rosewood Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). The MBU which is based in Dartford opened in August 2018 for the population of Kent, Surrey and Sussex

Working closely with NHS England, the aim is to improve the access and quality of perinatal mental health services across the counties.

We are therefore looking for an experienced Nursery Nurse to provide nursery nursing interventions and support to mothers with acute perinatal mental health needs and their babies. This will include mothers in the antenatal and postnatal period within the MBU setting. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working alongside professionals offering a therapeutic input as well as wider community teams. You must also have a recognised Child Care qualification e.g. NNEB or BTEC National Diploma.

Please note that this post requires staff to work a combination of shifts, early shifts, late shifts & night shifts. This to ensure that the MBU has Nursery Nurse provision covering 24hrs a day over a 7 day week.
1. To work as a member of the MDT, assisting in the provision of interventions to meet the needs of the baby for those mothers receiving in-patient care.
2. Promoting and supporting the health of the mother and baby.
3. To provide an effective and supportive nursery nurse service to mothers in the antenatal and postnatal period, within an in-patient MBU setting.
4. To support the mother and the rest of the MDT ensuring the emotional and practical care of the baby and to monitor developmental progress.
5. To work in partnership with the family and the wider community nursing teams e.g. Midwives, Health Visitors, Community staff nurses, Community Nursery Nurses.

1. To support the work of the MBU through the provision of high quality, evidence based nursery nursing
2. To work with the rest of the MDT to provide nursery nursing input to mothers and their babies and families providing support and assistance in both Antenatal and postnatal
3. To work collaboratively within the MBU complimenting the ongoing interventions of clinicians and ensuring the baby’s welfare is paramount at all times.
4. To work collaboratively with the mother providing specialist clinical interventions
5. To ensure an assessment of the baby is conducted and documented upon every contact.
6. To ensure regular monitoring of physical health and developmental milestones are undertaken in conjunction with the Health Visitor.
7. To ensure that a mother’s involvement is fully promoted and that they are consulted about the care being given to their baby.
8. To participate in the organisation and facilitation of mother and baby groups with the aim of sharing and educating in all areas of baby care and play.
9. Provide written and verbal reports to the multi-disciplinary team relating to mothers behaviour with her baby and any changes in the physical condition of babies. Reporting any concerns immediately to the nurse in charge.
10. Communicate sensitive information to patients and/or relatives/carers concerning appropriate physical and/or psychological conditions. Attend meetings to represent nursery nursing as necessary and feedback information from the team.
