The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

The Faculty of Technology wishes to recruit a Technician to help contribute to our teaching activities across a wide variety of subject areas. This is a unique opportunity to start a career in a technical role that contributes to a diverse and vibrant Faculty. We are seeking to recruit highly motivated individuals to our Technician posts, who want to contribute and make a difference in supporting the education of the future generations of engineers.

What will you be doing?
Our Faculty is made of a number of School’s/Departments/Institutes that span a wide range of subject areas. Our Technical staff mainly support teaching and project activities although we do also support research and other projects. This work covers lots of exciting topics and equipment including:

  • Plus many more…

As a new member of staff, you will be supporting activities across our Faculty. If you are the type of person who loves to learn new things and enjoys understanding how things work, then this could be the ideal job for you. You will work with other Technical staff and Academic colleagues to help learn and support activities. This will involve being directly involved in working with our students.

Another part of our role is keeping ourselves and others safe and so there will be a part of your job which will be involved in learning about Health and Safety in the workplace and contributing to important Health and Safety activities.

You should apply if
  • You have an interest in Technology or Engineering with some knowledge of either Electronics, Workshops, Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, CAD/CAM or Physics.
  • Like to learn new things.
  • You are able to understand how things work.
  • You can solve problems.
  • You have the ability to plan and organise yourself and your work. Technical work often requires a methodical approach.
  • Wish to help people develop by assisting them with aspects of their learning. Perhaps you are in a training role already or have been in the past? Perhaps you have worked in an educational institution in the past? Perhaps you were a student recently?
  • You are willing to learn and support activities in a broad range of subject areas.
  • You have the ability to manage multiple tasks and ensure they are delivered on time to the correct standard.

If you feel you meet these criteria and are interested in the post then we would encourage you to look in more detail at the Job Description and Persons Specification to get more information on the wider requirements of the role.

Please note that previous applicants need not re-apply.
