Arxada is looking for a Product Development Chemist , based in Blackley UK.
In this role you will have the responsibility for the development (through design and testing) of new and improved biocidal wood products designed for the European wood protection business. You will encompass applications testing of these products which includes treatment of wood and setting up efficacy studies and lead the work flows for development projects.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, formulate, and evaluate novel, industry leading products and revise/reformulate existing products
- Understand the context in which development projects evolve within critical and complex regulatory guidelines
- Utilise a wide range of analytical testing methods including XRF, HPLC, LCMS and GC
- Encompass applications testing of these products which includes treatment of wood and setting up efficacy studies
- Foster strong relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders required for the successful completion of development projects
- Identify new vendors and strategic partners for product development
- Provide sound interpretation of scientific results
- Preparation technical reports, presentations and other management/administrative tasks related to EMEA R&D function
- Raise the formulation ability of the development team through cooperative knowledge sharing
- Perform all work in a safe manner in accordance with internal quality and COSHH regulations, and that EHS initiatives are supported
Key requirements:
- MSc in a science discipline – preferred area of study: Chemistry
- Minimum 5 years’ of industrial experience as Research and Development Scientist (e.g. preferably wood science, agrochemicals)
- Strong knowledge of formulation stability assessment through use of a number of analytical techniques e.g. light scattering, rheology, particle-size, contact angle, tensiometer
- Formulation of complex mixtures of actives with disparate physical/chemical properties
- Understands the science behind the use of modern analytical instrumentation in this field and be able to apply it in the laboratory
- Excellent organizational / planning skills and to develop good working relationships
- Report writing excellence, with high attention to detail
- Strong problem solving skills
- Project management experience
- Confidence with excellent communication skills at all levels, both verbal and written
