Purpose: Derry Credit Union is seeking a Marketing Assistant to support the Head of Operations & Business Development to support and develop its growth plans. The position will encompass traditional, online and social media marketing and the ongoing identification of market trends and opportunities. The appointee will contribute to the strategic development and sustainable growth of Derry Credit Union.

Key Requirements: The Marketing Assistant will have responsibility for improving and growing the business by fostering and developing relationships with members and potential members within our common bond area, suppliers and other strategic partners. The successful candidate will improve the credit union surplus through careful strategic planning, the positioning of the credit union as a lender of choice as well as enhancing the credit unions reputation. This will entail work initiating, planning and implementing Derry Credit Union’s development, marketing and promotions plans, in accordance with the goals set in our strategic plan 2022-2027. The successful candidate will work with the management team, Education and Training Officer, and Education and Business Development Committees, and will oversee the day to day implementation of the marketing and promotions plan, including the Marketing budget.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

· Raise the profile of the credit union throughout the common bond and wider community.

· Identify new business opportunities within the common bond - including new markets, growth areas, trends, members, products and services.

· Implement a program that includes contacting existing members to maintain and expand the credit union relationship, contacting prospective members and developing new business by planning, executing and delivering unique and creative marketing and promotion campaigns and initiatives to increase membership and achieve loan book growth.

· Understand the needs of our members and be able to respond effectively with a strategy of how to meet these and have a good understanding of the credit unions' products and services and be able to advise others about them.

· Develop a marketing and promotions plan for Derry Credit Union in conjunction with the Head of Operations & Business Development, Education and Training Officer and the Education and Business Development Committees that aligns products with the demographics and needs of those within our common bond.

· Drive and grow the range of online services available to members.

· Discuss promotional strategy and activities with the management team, Education and Business Development committees.

· Attend seminars, conferences and events where appropriate.

· Maintain high product knowledge by learning new selling techniques new products and market trends.

· Represent the credit union in the community at various community events to develop business relationships.

· Implement marketing initiatives, including but not limited to, advertising, direct marketing, online marketing, new product development and point of sale promotional material.

· In conjunction with the Education and Training Officer, manage external PR related activities and communications to ensure consistency of message throughout.

· Maintain online and social media marketing campaigns.

· Ensure compliance with all legislation, regulations and guidance in relation to the Marketing function.

· Conduct market research, member data analysis, and competitor monitoring.

· Event management as part of Derry Credit Union’s marketing activities.

· Ongoing analysis of marketing campaigns to establish effectiveness and to ensure our products/services are meeting our targeted revenue and margin goals.

· Support our marketing/business development objectives and to ensure front line promotion is optimised.

· Provide feedback, reporting and market insights to the management team and to the Board through the Education and Business Development Committees.

· Prioritise all tasks required to be completed according to their urgency.

· Keep up to date with market and governance trends as they pertain to the credit union.

· Attend Board Meetings and other meetings as required.

· Report to your line manager on your work regularly, at least monthly.

· Ensure that appropriate controls are maintained on the work and that the Head of Operations and Business Development is kept informed of your work at all times. Particularly where deviation from the agreed time frames or policies occur.

Business Growth & Development

· Develop and implement a Board approved membership recruitment plan in conjunction with the Education and Business Development Committees.

· Develop and implement a Board approved Marketing Plan based on our Strategic Plan in conjunction with the Business Development Committee.

· Ensure adequate stock levels of promotional leaflets, booklets and merchandise are maintained.

· Create and place advertisements if required with magazines, radio, and newspapers to support the strategic goals.

· Ensure that all work is carried out within budgets.

· Creation of a promotional calendar to include one off promotions, to our minor depositors.

Strategic Planning

· Work strategically - carrying out necessary planning in order to implement operational changes.

· Think strategically – have the ability to see the bigger picture and assist in setting aims and objectives in order to develop and improve the business.

· In consultation with the Board, Chief Executive Officer, Management Team, Staff and other stakeholders, use business analysis tools, market research and other analytical tools to examine the business environment.

· Document the resulting Strategic Plan and present to the Board for approval.

· Propose and seek approval of SMART KPI’s to achieve the goals of the Strategic Plan.

· Conduct ongoing regular reviews of the Strategic Plan.

· Where KPI’s deviate from projections, consult with the Management Team.

· Where the gap is positive, review the projections.

· Where the gap is negative, put in place actions to close the gap.

· Report to the Strategic Planning Committee as and when required.

Other duties

· Work with the management team as and when required on special projects which may arise from time to time.

Essential requirements

· Have at least a Level 5 qualification in the area of Marketing, e-marketing or Digital Media

Or

· Be able to demonstrate on the application form, by providing personal and specific examples, at least two years relevant* employment experience

*relevant defined as working in an online marketing, social media or digital marketing role

And

· Experience of Digital Marketing and Data Analytics

· Website Development and Search Engine Optimisation

· Social Media Management and Video Production

· Strong understanding of customer and marketing dynamics

· Excellent IT skills, with strong data base analysis and Microsoft Office capabilities

· Excellent organisational skills

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· High level of creativity

· High level of numeracy skills

· Ability to manage multiple projects at a time

Desirable

· Marketing Degree

· Experience of marketing in a financial institution

· Experience in writing press releases and articles

· Experience in writing, designing (page layout/graphics) and preparing for publication print materials, including leaflets and flyers

· Experience in developing and delivering social media marketing campaigns

· Credit Union experience

· Hold a current driving licence and access to a car (applicants with a disability who have been prevented from obtaining a driving licence due to their disability (as defined by the DDA 1995) are eligible to apply).

The successful candidate will be expected to:
