You will be responsible for delivering the required standards and processes in Radiological and Environmental Protection. This ensures the safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power plant in accordance with all compliance requirements of regulating bodies and industry best practices.

Pay, benefits and culture...


The salary range associated with this role is between £37,080 to £79,619 with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. However, the starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £37,080 to £67,175 dependant on the successful candidate’s competence, experience and qualifications. What you’ll be doing


As a Radiological Protection Engineer - your responsibilities will include:


  • Specification of radiological protection precautions in support of operations, maintenance and outage activities.
  • Provision of technical advice and oversight of the site’s arrangements for the assessment of radiation doses, the management of radiological monitoring instrumentation, the management of protective clothing and equipment, for control of radioactive material and for radioactive material movement and transport.
  • Managing the arrangements for the accumulation, storage and disposal of solid radioactive wastes from controlled areas.
  • Provision of technical advice and oversight of the site arrangements for the monitoring, assessment and reporting of liquid and gaseous discharges;
  • Development and delivery of radiological protection and environmental training; advising and mentoring other departments to increase their understanding.
  • Interacting with external regulators such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency and being the point of contact in any abnormal radiological events and implementing site contingency arrangements
  • You will be required to participate in the nuclear emergency scheme and will receive suitable remuneration for this; you will therefore need to live within 25 miles or 45 minutes of your working location.


Who you are


You will be qualified to a minimum of HNC (or equivalent) in a science or engineering discipline. Experience in radiological protection or radioactive waste is an advantage. At this level, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of statutory legislation relevant to nuclear power station operation, including Site Licence requirements, Safety & Emergency Plan protocols.


Essential competencies to perform this role include:


  • You will be confident communicator; sharing technical information with a range of internal customers/stakeholders across the power station and wider company.
  • You will consider safety as paramount importance with ability to work safely and to organise self and others, to work flexibly to deliver against a mix of short- and long-term targets, and to identify improvements to existing methods and procedures.
  • The drive to succeed in all formal on/off site training courses and work though training programmes with support of Group Head and mentors in order to achieve
  • You will be solutions focused working to resolve situations in new or unfamiliar circumstances and manage consequences of implementation of such solutions.
