Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate/Fellow based at the University’s Sutton Bonington Campus.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a research project focussed on the growth of sustainable farm based protein crops. The role holder will design and conduct experiments on the agronomy and nutritional value of protein crops, grown both as sole crops and intercrops with cereals, working closely with the field trials team to deliver high quality experiments. They will also work collaboratively with project partners to facilitate on-farm experiments and with colleagues in nutritional sciences to analyse the crop samples.

The role holder will be responsible for data analysis and producing scientific reports, refereed papers and knowledge exchange documents. They will also participate in on-farm open days and farmer engagement days.

Candidates must have, or be close to completing, a PhD in agronomy or related subject, excellent research skills and proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A good understanding of field experimental design and statistical analysis is essential. Candidates must also have excellent time management and multi-tasking skills and evidence of effective research delivery within a multidisciplinary environment.

Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, preferably with experience of presenting at knowledge transfer events for farmers and agronomists. Experience of publishing research work in peer-reviewed journals is desirable.

The ability to travel to and from remote field sites within the UK is essential as is the ability to undertake field work, including crop sampling. Experience of a working with protein crops is desirable but not essential.

This role is available on a fixed term basis until 31/03/2025. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
