The Role
We are recruiting for an Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer within our Iron Making department at our site in Port Talbot, South Wales. The purpose of the role is to manage, maintain and continuously improve the EC & I function of manufacturing and engineering within the Works Area. This includes the EC & I aspects of plant engineering, availability and reliability, as well as of occupational and process safety, and the environment. The overall aim is to ensure the required maintenance and calibration activities for professional asset management and manufacturing operations so to achieve annual plan.
Within the role, you will report to the Area Engineering Manager and work as part of a team of three EC & I Engineers, with two Inspectors/Technicians as direct reports. You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties;
- Develop and implement a cost effective maintenance regime for EC & I aspects including calibrations, corrective and preventative activities.
- Working with the Manufacturing and Engineering Team, determine the EC & I engineering priorities and deliver a professional asset management solution for the EC & I function.
- Provide prompt and effective technical advice and use root cause analysis to identify solutions to plant performance problems.
- Support plant areas teams in reviewing equipment performance and failure reduction activities where required for the EC & I function.
- Support EC & I improvement and development ensuring standards, uniformity and efficiency are consistent for the works area.
- Participate in Hazard Operability Studies (HAZOP) or other structured risk assessments as required.
- Ensure EC & I related process safety standards are met within the Works Area.
- Ensure the effective management of Manufacturing IT systems, automation and specialist electronic systems compliant with Tata and industry standards.
- Identify, develop concepts, plan and implement plant improvements to optimise product volume and yields whilst minimising operating costs and maximising unit safety and reliability.
- Assist in the design, procurement, and installation of new equipment to support process improvements.
- Oversee the personal and professional development of your direct reports.
- Support with training and development of shift in relation of EC & I aspects.
- Communicate regularly with counterparts in other installations and businesses to facilitate continuous improvement and learning.
The Candidate
The EC&I Engineer will have experience of working within the manufacturing sector or a heavy industry environment. It would be advantageous if applicants had experience, knowledge or familiarity with some or the majority of the below;
- Would be as a minimum educated to HNC / HND standard or equivalent.
- Of EC & I, PLC and SCADA processes and best practices.
- With PLC programming, fault finding and minor system modification design. (such as PLC knowledge of Allen Bradley, ABB, Siemens and Eurotherm and Scada experience on iFIX, ABB)
- Of PC administration and manufacturing IT standards and practices. Industrial networks such as Profibus and Foundation Fieldbus.
- Capability of trend analysis such as using IBA and iFix Historian
- Of typical industrial instrumentation such as transducers, actuators, flowmeters and control valves for flow, temperature, pressure and weighing.
- Of closed loop control principles including PID loops and current loops.
- Of working with and configuring parameters on VSD drive units
- An appreciation of Networks, IP Addressing, subnets, switch and router topologies would be a benefit.
- Understanding of electrical and P&ID drawings.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills of workplace systems such as Health and Safety requirements, Safe Working Practices, Quality Assurance documentation and Permit systems
