At Hiscox we have seven regional offices including our central underwriting teams. This role sits within the medical malpractice team. Medical malpractice is a specialist account within Hiscox UK. The team are responsible for underwriting medical malpractice risks and developing relationships with brokers across all UK regional offices.
In your new role you’ll develop your skills to underwrite our new/existing medical malpractice policies and provide an exceptional and memorable service to our brokers.
You will start with us as a trainee underwriter and receive comprehensive training and development (both on and off the job) to enable you to develop into an underwriter and then senior underwriter in due course.
What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be underwriting our medical malpractice suite of products in line with our high standards

Working towards annual targets including profitability, conversion and productivity

You’ll take a proactive approach to learning and developing your skills in underwriting and sales

Between your mentors and peers there will be a two way appreciation of sales strategy and underwriting strategy across your allocated regions.

Be committed to the underwriting strategies established by underwriting management

Negotiating with brokers to profitably underwrite

Challenging decisions on nonstandard underwriting by referring to a senior underwriter or underwriting manager

Must Have:

You’ll ideally have some experience in the insurance industry at an entry level

You’ll be a strong team player as well as take ownership of your brokers and driving results

An analytical mind, proactive in thought process and the ability to back up the decisions you make

You’ll thrive on fast paced pressure and be able to work quickly and accurately, show consistent dedication and commitment in a growing and demanding area of the business

Self-motivated with a strong determination to achieve results and succeed personally

Progression towards ACII qualification and/or willingness to study for this
