We have an exciting opportunity to join Humberside Police on a temporary contract, as an Investigations Officer for the Professional Standards department. Directed by the Senior Investigating Officer, you will be investigating matters that have been referred to the Professional Standards team, including public complaints, internal misconduct and criminal allegations, which includes police officers and police staff.
This job requires an individual who can become a great role model to our staff and will uphold our Code of Ethics in all work and behaviour.
Role Detail:
- Familiarises self with the contents to ensure a full understanding of each case before the investigation commences.
- Contacts complainants and provides advice on the complaints and misconduct procedure and establishes the exact nature of the complaint.
- Assesses a complaint and decide on the most appropriate manner of case management and expeditious investigation.
- In cases of Local resolution speaks with the officer or staff member concerned regarding the cause for complaint and represents the officer’s views in subsequent correspondence to finalise the complaint.
- In cases of criminal or formal investigation gathers all evidence including witness, physical and forensic evidence ensuring that exhibits are correctly packaged / labelled and that continuity is maintained.
- Ensures that all investigations are carried out in a timely manner and compliance with regulations.
What is Required:
- Is educated to A level standard or equivalent.
- Has knowledge of Police activities and maintains an awareness of current policing issues.
- Must be willing to attend external training for this role.
- Previous experience of working in an investigative environment.
- Experience of working with sensitive information.
- Has experience of supervising and conducting sensitive crime investigations.
- Is able to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner appropriate to the audience and the situation.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the feelings of others.
- Is able to analyse and critically discuss complex material in the form of a report remaining concise and well balanced whilst making specific recommendations when necessary.
