The role of Head of Data, Performance and Finance returns at Skills Group.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Data Analyst to join our senior management team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about utilising data to drive strategic decision making.

Skills group was formed in 1994 and is the premier independent training provider in the South west of England. We deliver apprenticeships, study programmes, high needs programmes and a significant AEB contract within the region.

The Head of Data will be working closely with our senior leadership team to provide a forensic overview of our data and insights that will support the strategic direction of the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, analysing, and interpreting large datasets to support our decision-making process.

The head of data will also be responsible for ensuring financial returns of approximately £500,000 per month and , in conjunction with the Managing director and Operations director, the integrity of the underlying data.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, including experience with statistical methods and data visualisation. They should also have excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex data insights in a clear and concise manner.

While we are currently recruiting for a 12 month fixed contract that could be reviewed by agreement of both parties into a permanent position.

Job Title: Head of Data, Performance and Financial returns

Salary/Duration: £50,000 - 12 months

Reports to: Managing Director

Hours: Full-time 39.5 hours per week

The purpose of the Head of Data is to collect, analyse, and interpret complex educational data to support strategic decisions to improve student learning outcomes and experience at Skills Group, as well as to make financial returns to the ESFA and local authority. The Head of data will identify patterns and trends in student performance, track progress and identify areas for improvement, and support the development of data-driven strategies to enhance teaching and learning. Additionally, the data analyst will provide regular reports and insights to relevant stakeholders to ensure that data is being effectively utilised to support the goals and mission of the provider.
The Role

Partnering with the Senior Leadership Team to deﬁne clear performance metrics that align with the providers vision and goals. The head of data will attend regular meetings with the SLT to understand their data needs, present analysis, contribute to strategy, and discuss any relevant updates from the Department for Education and ESFA.
Will take charge of auditing, designing, and implementing efﬁcient systems for collecting and analysing data to support improvement. They will lead on analysing attendance data and distributing it to relevant parties. They will also identify trends and present data in a format that is suitable for a variety of stakeholders.
Maintain and manipulate data in other systems as required
Be responsible for providing accurate and insightful reports to the governing body, SLT, middle leaders, teachers, parents and external agencies. They will work with the SLT to establish effective tracking and reporting mechanisms for key performance areas, including academic performance, student attendance, behaviour, census data, and safeguarding. The data analyst will ensure that data is timely and accessible to stakeholders to support improvement efforts.
Keep up-to-date with current research and best practices in data analysis and evaluation. They will advise managers and the SLT on compliance issues and ensure that statutory returns are made accurately.
Oversee download of examination and test results, including public examinations. Generation of associated examination results and other associated reports

Management of Information Systems

Providing strategic direction for the MIS function and preparing the providers information system (currently WinPICS) for each monthly return and yearly closedown.
Ensure that the provider’s use of MIS and associated systems is optimised by providing training and support to staff, and ensuring seamless transfer of data between MIS modules. They will also work with external partners and agencies to develop and maintain information systems.
Have overall responsibility for the maintenance of the MIS, including maintaining pastoral & academic records and facilitating electives and options choices as required

Staff CPD

Conduct a skills audit and create a professional development program for support staff as a component of their performance evaluation process.
The role will involve providing support to all staff in their daily use of information systems
Design and conduct training sessions, induction programs, and produce user guides and materials tailored to the provider’s speciﬁc information system needs.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining efﬁcient systems for collecting provider data, analysing it, and using it to track, interpret, and evaluate the provider's effectiveness.

Partnership & Teamwork

Ensure smooth mechanisms for the collection and sharing of data across partnership organisations and oversee implementation.
Support the development and coordination of future networks and collaborative working with other stakeholders.
Explore and develop other software applications to facilitate provider operations.
Work collegiately with other leaders, to provide data rich information that supports decision making and workload management.

Essential/ Desirable

Qualiﬁcations :

Educated to, or experience equivalent to level 4 in a relevant discipline

Hold an IT qualiﬁcation at least to level 3 or have signiﬁcant recent IT experience including high end knowledge of Access, Word, Excel and Internet browsers

Permitted to work in the UK

Experience of managing complex data in an environment with changing requirements.

An ability to effectively use IT software packages which support all aspects of pupil monitoring, including CPOMS, Google Suite etc

Experience creating data visualisation such as dashboards using products like One file, Pics.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

An ability to translate current educational thinking into workable, operational plans.

Strong analytical skills and an ability to interpret data effectively and use it to identify areas for development

A comprehensive understanding both of national performance measures for Further Education and the Ofsted framework for inspections and experience in using these to drive forward signiﬁcant improvements within a school

Knowledge of constructing and maintaining a timetable.
