Media Officer
The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.
We're looking for a part-time Media Officer to join our BMA Cymru Wales team. The successful applicant will work 2 days per week with a mix of working from our Cardiff office and at home. The working days will be discussed during the interview process.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Media and Public Affairs, the Media Officer will play a vital role within the team and wider BMA through ensuring that the Association is represented in the media on key aspects of health policy.
In addition, the Media Officer will have some specific responsibility for internal communications and social media. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to gain exposure to different parts of the organisation and work across a reactive and proactive news agenda.
As a Media Officer you'll have:
- Sound news judgement alongside the ability to interpret information and understand what makes a story newsworthy
- Experience of collaborating with the media and handling changing priorities and deadlines
- Degree level education or relevant professional experience
- Experience in journalism, media relations, or PR
- Good communication skills and the ability to draft material to suit a variety of audiences
- Ability to work well in a team but also autonomously
- Knowledge and awareness of the media and social media
- Ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively
- Good understanding of health related issues and policies
