Working for a world class steel pressing company Unipres UK Limited - this apprenticeship is specifically aimed at developing the next generation of Maintenance Technicians. Learn and contribute within our Assembly, Press and Die Maintenance departments.
Apprenticeship summary
What will the apprentice be doing?
Year 1 of the apprenticeship:
5 days off the job training at a specialist Training Provider - learning both practical and theoretical skills in engineering.
Year 2 until the completion of the apprenticeship:
4 days on the job training based at the plant with continued studies - 1 day a week with a specialist Training Provider.
3 weeks rotation of the 3 Maintenance Departments to explore which is preferred:
- Assembly Maintenance (fixing and maintaining the robot cells and facilities within that area - both electrial/mechanically biased)
- Press Maintenance (fixing the different types of press machines we have and other machinery in the department - both electrial/mechanically biased)
- Die Maintenance (fixing and maintaining the tools that go into the presses - mechanically biased)
Once you are located within your department after rotation to decide where you are based you are still classed as multi-skilled.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The sucessful candidates will gain a full Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Standard with pathways available for Mechatronics Maintenance Technician and Tool & Die Maintenance Technican. You will work in either the Assembly, Press or Die Maintenance Departments, alongside other talented Technicians.
The qualifications the apprentice will receive are as follows:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competance)
- Level 2 Award Foundation Phase Gateway Assessment
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competance) - Mechatronics Maintenance / Tool & Die Maintenance
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Apprentices can progress onto full time work with opportunities to progress through the ranks. Option to progress education further by completing a HNC Level of study. (Higher Apprenticeship in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Level 4).
Working week
Year 1: College - 8:30am - 15:30pm (Transport provided from Unipres Sunderland plant throughout year 1 to Training Provider)
Years 2 - 4: Plant based learning - 6:45am - 15:03pm College Day Release - 9:00am - 16:00pm
