At Centrica Business Solutions (CBS) we provide integrated energy solutions that deliver cost efficiency, resilience and accelerate our customers’ journeys to a low carbon future. We serve business and public sector organisations, increasingly focusing on delivering decarbonisation of power, heating and transport through our portfolio of solutions. In Centrica Energy Assets (CEA) within CBS we are building a 900MW portfolio of solar and battery storage assets.

This is a new role with a small team to look after the expanding portfolio of Centrica Energy Assets. You will get to set the strategic direction for HSE ensuring delivery against the overall HSE strategy and business plan. The role combines deep operational and technical knowledge with good strategic insight providing the CEA leadership team suitable and sufficient HSE guidance and advice on all HSE matters whilst promoting a strong safety culture.

Key focus areas will be:

• Maximize Health, Safety and Environmental performance within CEA.
• Define and deliver Health, Safety and Environmental practices that meet the needs of a large construction and energy generation business.

The Role

For your new role as HSE Manager in Centrica Energy Assets you will have some of the following accountabilities:

• Work within a centralised HSE function to design and develop an industry leading HSE strategy for CEA.
• Drive a culture of relentless focus on improving our HSE throughout the entire CEA organisation.
• Hold leaders and colleagues accountable to high standards on all aspects of HSE delivery.
• Collaborate with the central HSE function and peers across Centrica Business Solutions to share learnings and to leverage expertise that can continue to improve our safety performance.
• Act as a thought leader to “bring the outside in”, ensuring professional best practice continually improves everything we do from a HSE perspective.
• Maintain oversight of changing legal and other requirements, appraise management on changing requirements and control options, and ensure HSE legislative compliance is maintained.

The Person

We are looking for someone with deep knowledge and experience of UK Construction and HSE practices, legislative requirements, and management systems (a subject matter expert):

• Construction and Design Management Regs 2015 (CDM)
• Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA)

You will be a leader and a proven relationship-builder both internally and externally with the ability to influence HSE standards through coaching across stakeholders. We don’t mind your industry background.

You will need some HSE, Environmental (e.g. IEMA) or Technical qualifications. IOSH advantageous.
