Salary: £11 p/h (incluisve of 12.07% in lieu of annual leave)
Hours: This is a bank staff role, so we are offering flexible and variable shifts according to the needs of the young people in placement: day shifts/ weekends/ possible occasional night shifts; currently approx. 20 hours p/w
Role:
To aid in leading young people and unaccompanied asylum seeking minors (16+) who are placed with Adolescent Support Home Services (ASHS) towards independence, support them in reaching their full potential and help them achieve specific objectives according to their individual needs and abilities. You will be based in the home with our young people but may have to take them out to appointments, meetings, and events and there will be regular liaison with social workers and other support professionals. You will also be required to support the young people in keeping the home clean and tidy. Shifts will be largely during the day time and weekends but may include occasional night shifts.
Responsibilities:
- To establish and maintain positive, nurturing relationships with our young people, always providing an ideal model of behaviour and conduct;
- To provide a positive, welcoming and homely environment for our young people, supporting them in undertaking domestic duties in the home when necessary;
- To take appropriate action in line with ASHS' policies and procedures to safeguard young people from harm and protect their welfare;
- To follow ASHS' safeguarding policy and procedures, referring any concern in relation to child protection to the appropriate manager immediately;
- To carry out appropriate checks on all visitors to the property and ensure relevant records are completed;
- To share all necessary information regarding our young people with colleagues, management and professionals in a timely and professional manner and to complete all appropriate relevant reports;
- To take specific actions or engage in specific tasks while on shift to support our young people in achieving the objectives set out in their Support Plan;
- To maintain data confidentiality by adhering to ASHS' data protection policies;
- To complete all relevant records relating to your shift in a timely manner, ensuring they are clear, accurate and appropriately detailed;
- To ensure that our young people's paperwork and records are up to date, if appropriate;
- To support in the preparation for and to attend relevant meetings (if appropriate) with our young people, such as LAC reviews, house meetings etc;
- To ensure the general condition of the home is kept to a high standard; this may include cleaning the property;
- To report any maintenance issues with the home straight away to the relevant person;
- To undertake any mandatory training and professional development offered by ASHS;
- To comply with all relevant ASHS policies and procedures.
- An enhanced DBS check will be undertaken if you do not already hold one.

Person Specification
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent (or willingness to work towards a NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care/equivalent) (A, I, D)
- Experience of working with young people, ideally in a social care setting (A,I)
- A passion and commitment towards working with young people and making a genuine difference in their lives (I)
- Working knowledge of safeguarding procedures (A,I)
- A friendly and supportive manner, with the ability to empathise and see the best in young people (I)
- Flexible and calm; able to work well in stressful situations; ability to manage challenging behaviour (A,I)
- Self-motivated and focused on achieving goals and objectives, ensuring deadlines are met (A,I)
- Ability to work well as part of a team and accept direction and guidance (A,I)
- Able to work over the 7-day week, including bank holidays, weekends, evenings, sleep-ins and shift cancellations (I)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy skills (A,I)
- Sensitivity to people of all backgrounds and an understanding of Equal Opportunity and its importance in the workplace (A,I)
- At least 21 years of age, preferably with a full UK driving licence (but this is not essential) (D)
