Play & Farm Park Manager

This job will initially be a contract for 12 months from April 2023, with a review one month before the end of the contract.
This is a hands on role! When we are busy you will be ‘traffic controlling’ your team to delight our customers and keep our team happy. When we are quiet, you will be doing everything from cleaning, to serving, to organising.
You will be in charge of staff rotas, ensuring adequate cover at all times and being available to cover in emergency. You will have experience of leading a team. You could work three days during the week (9-3) plus every weekend and bank holiday (9-5ish) during opening hours, alternatively you could work 4 days a week with only one day at the weekend.
You will organize a system that will keep the play barn spotlessly tidy and clean at all times. You will be in charge of money and finances for the playbarn and you will be aware of the general company figures too.
You will be aware of labour percentages and takings and provide a report to the owner once a fortnight at the managers meeting.
You will work closely with the owner to develop and organize events and special weekends in the barn and farm park. You will be responsible for organising the setting up, delivery, training and dismantling of events for families. You will be in charge of providing marketing content in conjunction with our marketing guru. You will work in together with the Farmhouse Kitchen and wedding barn, to promote the site as a whole.
You will ensure that systems are in place for the catering/kitchen in the playbarn and will work closely with our head chef to ensure that the catering runs smoothly. You will order stock and keep tight controls on stocking levels.
You will be in charge of recycling and energy saving for the play areas..
You will be computer literate and able to work excel spreadsheets, send emails and keep records of invoices.
You will ideally have a first aid certificate.
You will organise daily (weekday) classes /activities for children and you will enjoy working with children. You will be very calm in a crisis.
Staffing:
Ensure you have a full compliment of staff every day.
Ensure all staff are correctly dressed, minimal make up, minimal jewellery, sensible shoes, hair tied back, badge in place.
Allocate a member in charge every day when you are not present to take charge.
You will hire and discipline your team as necessary.
You will present your staff percentages to the staff meeting each week.
You will ensure that each person off sick fills in a ‘back to work’ form.
You will ensure that staff have a job chat after 3 months and 6 monthly thereafter.
Environment:
You will walk through the restaurant each morning and note jobs for your team.
Ensure tables & chairs are clean/tidy/mended/not wobbly at all times
Ensure floor and play equipment is clean every night
Ensure the counter is clear of junk and clutter and is clean.
Ensure all signage is up to date (including toilets)
You will establish a cleaning rota and ensure that it is adhered to
Ensure all menus are clean and tidy
Ensure all sauce pots/condiments/salt & pepper are filled up every morning/evening
Ensure all areas are clean and tidy every morning/evening
Ensure cleaning schedules are filled in accurately
Ensure party room is clean and tidy before and after a party
Training:
Each new member of staff should have a training matrix to cover induction, coffee making & machine clearing, table clearing, dish washing, plate stacking, loo cleaning, cleaning floors, setting up for the day, closing down for the day, till use, cashing up, recycling, leading musical sessions etc and general cleaning. This should be completed by the trainer and trainee after completing training in each task.
Targets:
You will know your target figures for the following week before the managers meeting.
You will make staff aware every day of the target to beat and whether they have beaten it – write it in the book.
Promotions:
You will work with kitchen, butchery and shop to create joined up promotions and present your ideas to the managers meeting. If a promotion involves the playbarn, you will be responsible for staffing it and making sure you have everything you need (crafts, glue, paper etc).
You will be interested in other playbarns, farm parks, restaurants/cafes/ coffee shops, visiting other venues and ‘borrowing’ menu ideas to share with the kitchen.
You will be motivating your team with a happy, ‘can do’ attitude and carrying out any other duties required for the smooth running of the indoor play and café.
Your wage will depend upon experience and may be adjusted to changing opening hours.
