Job Description

Save the Children UK has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and influential individual with project management experience to join us as our Operations Manager in our Global Programmes division where you will work with people across different teams in the Global Programmes division to support the development of a high performing team delivering against organisational priorities.

About Us

Save the Children UK believes every child deserves a future. In the UK and around the world, we work every day to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. When crisis strikes, and children are most vulnerable, we are always among the first to respond and the last to leave. We ensure children's unique needs are met and their voices are heard. We deliver lasting results for millions of children, including those hardest to reach.

About the role

As the Operations Manager you will engage and work with people across different teams in our Global Programmes Division, across Save the Children UK and the Save the Children movement to support the development of a high performing team delivering against organisational priorities. You will drive major system and change initiatives at divisional level in support of these priorities, while also supporting our ongoing operational effectiveness, and the engagement of Global Programmes staff in our organisational communications, people and culture agendas.

In this role, you will:

  • Project Management: lead or facilitate strategic and prioritised cross-divisional projects and working groups, acting as the process owner for these initiatives.
  • Systems & Process improvement: represent and advocate for the needs of the GP division, influencing and adapting systems and processes to ensure efficient and effective delivery of organisational initiatives. Develop close and effective relationships on behalf of Global Programmes with colleagues in our Support Services Division (HR, Finance, Technology, Transformation, Legal, Risk and Insurance), as well as participating in groups with peers from other Divisions to learn from and support each other.
  • Change Management: manage our divisional change plan, coordinating across departments, working with divisional focal points and the leadership team, managing the task team and leading on project delivery as needed. Represent GP at organisational and movement levels as needed, influencing objectives and plans to ensure they meet GP and SCUK's strategic objectives and operational requirements. Ensure new ways of working are adopted and aligned behind tightly defined objectives for key areas of change to ensure the Division and other relevant teams across the organisation are better able to deliver on our objectives for children.
  • People & Culture: lead our people agenda for the division, through facilitation of a cross divisional people group and plan, and collaborative cross-organisational working under the People & Culture strategy and Diversity & Inclusion strategy umbrellas. Also through support to cross divisional and cross organisational communications as appropriate.
  • Line Management - Line manage a high performing team of 4 Coordinators and Administrators

About you

To be successful, it is important that you have:

  • Programme or project management experience as well as a familiarity with change and risk management.
  • Experience in a similarly complex, large organisation.
  • Strong line management experience and the ability to motivate a high performing team
  • Experience of implementation of complex systems, people or change initiatives.
  • Experience of marshalling and organising resources into efficient and effective teams, including the ability to influence teams and individuals who are not line reports.
  • Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a workload comprised of varying tasks and responsibilities.
  • Experience in communicating with and influencing senior management level leaders and wider staff.
  • A strong team player with an empowering and collaborative working style and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to Save the Children's vision, mission and values.

Ways of Working:

Remote First – The majority of our roles can be performed remotely, however you may work from the office as often as you wish. Whilst you will be predominantly working from home, we may at times require you to come to your contracted office (up to 2-4 days per month or 6-8 days per quarter). Note: This will be agreed with your Line Manager and team. This is intended to be time spent on collaborating with colleagues and relationship building.

Flexible Working - We are happy to discuss flexible working options at interview.

Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion:

Save the Children UK believes in a world that is fair, inclusive and equitable where all children have the opportunity to change their world. We apply this to our workforce and we are committed to developing and supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organisation where all employees have a sense of belonging and feel that they can be "Free to Be Me". We are not looking for just one type of person - we want to recruit people who can add fresh perspectives, innovative ideas or challenge that disrupts the risk of group think.

We are especially interested in people whose childhood experiences - of life on a low income, of migration, of being in a racialised community, of the care system, of being LGBT+ or in an LGBT+ family or living with (or with someone with) a disability - help us to see things we might otherwise miss. Whatever your story is we want to hear it because we know that different voices, ideas, perspectives and knowledge, working together will enable us to better the lives of children around the world. This is the reason why we are all here.
