Job summary

The Infantry Training Centre (ITC) delivers Infantry basic training and initial trade training and is based in Catterick Garrison. The ITC consists of three units; 1st and 2nd Infantry Training Battalions and a Support Battalion all collocated along with Headquarters School of Infantry. The 1st and 2nd Battalions undertake the Combat Infantry Course (CIC) for all recruits, who wish to join the Infantry whether regular or reserve. The ITC also commands Pegasus Company (which delivers P Coy), the Army School of Ceremonial, and the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming (based in Edinburgh).

We deliver training which covers everything from developing a civilian arriving with no military experience into a trained, confident Infantry soldier, to teaching people to play the Bagpipes.

Whilst military training is undertaken by highly skilled and experienced members of the Army, they are supported by almost 200 Ministry of Defence (MOD) Civil Servants along with a number of Defence contractors. We are in roles from drivers to HR Clerks and storekeepers to tutors!

As part of the ITC support Battalion the Quartermasters department’s stores you will be a key player in a small team working in a fast-paced environment, supporting the ITC’s 3 battalions with their equipment requirements to enable them carry out their duties to support unit training.

It should be noted that the successful applicant will be required to complete a computer-based store operating course within 12 months of taking up the position.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description

Carry out the demand, receipt and issue of equipment to meet the department’s operating procedures, ensuring all stores are accounted for in accordance with current Ministry of Defence accounting policies, using both computer and manual accounting procedures.

Person specification

  • Under the direction of Line management, demand, receive, control and issue equipment’s for the account assigned.
  • The daily issue and receipt of equipment to and from internal and external departments and Permanent staff. Preparing and maintaining documentation associated with the transactions.
  • Inspect and condition all equipment returned from customers, ensuring the accurate disposal routes are utilised for the items conditioned.
  • Where necessary, issue and receive equipment’s to and from soldiers’ personal records holdings.
  • Assist in the loading / unloading of delivery vehicles.
  • Assist in the receipt and issues counter duties as the need arises.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of the Stores and their areas of responsibilities.
  • The successful candidate will be supported to complete any relevant apprenticeship through the Apprenticeships in Defence programme.
