Job Description

Key Accountabilities / Activities / Projects

Position – Production Engineering Technician (Machine Factory)

Salary - £37,000.00 plus benefits including company bonus (profit related)

Key Accountabilities / Activities / Projects

The Production Engineering Technician provides technical

services to the machine factory, finding practical solutions to

technical challenges. They create the link between R&D and

commercial teams making changes, and the supply teams

building machines based on those changes. They build up an

expertise in the components, the machines and the process

of building them, and continuously improve those processes.

Responsible for all technical changes to the manufacturing processes on each

machine assembly line (Klix new build, refurbishment, branded vending) with

particular responsibility for developing manufacturing solutions for machine

innovation and new machine development

Represent Supply in R&D and Commercial teams, and keep Supply up to date

with the work being done. Build relationships with all of the technical teams

needing interaction with the factory.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement using data, including

measurement of the efficiency of the existing process and proposed change.

Run trials in the factory, ensuring that all materials and information are

available to make them possible, and that all the data gathering is in place.

Analyse the data and make recommendations on whether a proposal is

feasible, and what changes would be needed.

Manage small projects (<50kGBP), defining the scope, timeline and budget,

and then keeping the project to those objectives. Lead the project meetings

and present when required to the Supply and Commercial Directors.

When equipment or manufacturing processes need to be

changed in the machine factory, it is the Production

Engineering Technician’s role to understand them and put

them in place. This will require the job holder to gain a high

level of expertise on what happens in the factory, and how

the components and machine design influence that.

Proposed changes to the factory may come from R&D,

commercial, quality or the supply management team, or they

will come from the job holder themselves. In that case, the

role holder analyses data already collected or organises the

collection of new information, to help them identify the

opportunities. They will have good problem solving skills,

and use them to work out specifically what the problem is

and what needs to be done.

Once the problem is defined, the Production Engineering

Technician works with existing teams, or brings together the

right group of people, to work on a problem. They manage

the project: with the team, they establish the deliverables,

the budget and the time needed to solve the problem, and

then they are responsible for making sure the work is then

done fully, on time and on budget, either themselves or

through the team where expert help is needed.

They have a practical approach and find long term solutions

to technical problems, not just sticking plasters to keep the

factory running. They draw up simple sketches and do basic

installation themselves. Where there is too much work or it’s

more involved or needs higher engineering expertise, they

work with external contractors to define what they need, and

make sure they get it at a reasonable price. When external

contractors come to the machine factory, they host and

direct them, and ensure that they get the job done safely and

efficiently.

The Production Engineering Technician has an effective

relationship with a wide range of people in the business,

including the Supply teams, R&D, Commercial, Machines

Quality, Facilities and the rest of the Engineering team, and

can learn quickly from those associates, as well as

supporting them when needed.

The demands on the job holder are continuously changing,

so a key element of the role is looking ahead at what is

coming next, and making sure that they have the new

knowledge, or occasionally new skills, needed for the

challenge.
