Due to continued growth and long-term strategic ambitions, we are looking for an accountable, responsible and people orientated leader, who has held leading roles within a Operations environment to lead our Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) team in Northampton, delivering on Operational efficiency & Compliance objectives. Employee engagement and management is essential to ensure the operation continuously improves.
Main Duties / Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all individuals within the MRF Operations are effectively performing in-line with their individual and collective business goals.
- Monitoring performance against targets to ensure all daily/weekly/monthly KPIs are achieved. Implement and monitor improvement plans to positively impact variances to plan.
· Responsible for a processing site (Materials Recycling Facility/Transfer Station). The site operation involves manual picking, screening process and plant operations. The site deals with general waste which is to be sorted - with recycle products (paper, plastics, metals, wood, and cardboard etc.) being recovered and the remainder converted to an energy source with a focus on reducing materials sent to landfill
· Responsibility for the efficient running of the site. Measuring and controlling input and output. Ensuring that the processes run smoothly and maximising productivity & recyclables yield.
· Leading your team of staff to maximise the profit of the facility (e.g., instigating training requirements, employee appraisals etc. to ensure an engaged, skilled workforce).
· Ensuring the highest quality output which will return maximum value on the sale of processed commodity streams.
· Prepare and analyse functional reports for Senior Management team meetings in line with business plan objectives.
· Ensure that all Company policies and procedures and legal obligations are understood and adhered to by all members of staff.
· Strictly adhere to all Health and Safety procedures and ensure that the working environment is practical for both yourself and others, managing all Health and Safety concerns / breaches to ensure they are appropriately investigated and necessary action is taken.
· Ensuring all staff and third parties comply with Company Health and Safety procedures at all times. Actively influencing best practice.
· Build, grow and maintain close relationships with internal and external customers, new business, key stakeholders, and statutory bodies.
· Provide solutions to effectively impact opportunities (e.g. revenue growth, cost control, added value, employee engagement and business risks). A continuous improvement mindset is paramount, Lean methodology experience is advantageous.
· Maintain exceptional quality of Service, through pro-active employee leadership, coaching, mentoring, empowering improved decision making, ensuring correct process and procedures are followed, documented to ensure tangible processes are evidenced.
· Recruit, on-board, and train high-performing employees to achieve operational excellence, achieving increased sales growth, profitability, increase in market share and deliver on business plan objectives. Be influential in business and individual development and growth, be an integral influence in the future successes.
· Responsible for submitting accurate and timely attendance records for operational staff.
· A keen focus on customer service excellence, ensuring that customer retention is at the heart of everything we do and deliver on promises for new & existing customers alike.
· Continuously improve efficiencies, to ensure effective use of plant and facilities by eliminating availability, efficiency losses and operational wastes.
· Flexible approach to working hours in the best interests and needs of the business.
· Ensure all associated administration duties are carried out in line with company policies and procedures.
· Ensure that a professional and courteous approach is adopted at all times.
· And any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post, which may be allocated from time to time.
The ideal candidate:
- Previous experience of strong leadership skills and people management responsibility.
- Experience of managing a team in a time-critical environment with a keen focus on operational & service success.
- Previous xperience of working in an Operational / waste handling environment.
- A good understanding of HR scenarios and people management activities.
- Evidence of Leadership / Management qualifications.
- IOSH certification essential, NEBOSH desired.
- IT literate using and comfortable using business software and Microsoft Office suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications
- Knowledge of how to compile business reports and adapting data for the required audience.
- Strong communication skills - both written and verbal.
- Strong self-organisational skills and effective prioritisation of objectives.
- Minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths, however A-Levels or a Degree certainly won’t do any harm.
- The ability to work within a commercially driven service critical environment.
- Proven track record of working to clearly defined KPI’s and objectives.
- Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational, project based environment.
Experience:
- Operational Management: Minimum 3 years.
- Desired: WAMITAB Level 4 Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC).
