Job Description

We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.

We are seeking a Levelling Up Place Co-ordinator to join the team.

Over the two years from April 2023 to March 2025, seven Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) cultural agencies are joining forces to provide support to councils and communities delivering culture led regeneration projects throughout England. Using new funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, additional posts are being created to support Levelling Up through investment in culture.

This brings together the support of Arts Council England, Historic England, Sport England, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The National Lottery Community Fund, Visit Britain and the British Film Institute through five regional liaison committees. A team of co-ordinators and advisors will work with funded councils and organisations to signpost existing guidance, to develop packages of practical support and to offer advice on the alignment of future cultural investment with other funding opportunities.

What you will be doing

As one of a team of regional Co-ordinators you will build and maintain relationships with key Levelling Up Fund clients, identifying priorities and developing partnership, promoting the programme, analysing resource needs and opportunities to provide help and information in liaison with the five Area Town Groups (ATGs). Through influence and advocacy, negotiate packages that draw together the specialist advice and resources of DCMS Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs) to aid Levelling Up Fund recipients/clients. Monitoring the delivery of advice and customer satisfaction, and ensuring that delivery meets expectations. You will ensure that funding objectives are achieved, and have ownership for accounting and reporting back to funders.

You will work with the ATG and partner organisations in providing advice on strategic cultural investment priorities for places, helping strategic planning in partnership with the ATGs, bringing together DCMS ALBs to maximise the effectiveness of their support in building a consensus for investment priorities for future funding opportunities.

You will provide a secretariat function to one of the ATGs, arranging and noting their meetings, working in partnership with the chair. As part of the regional co-ordination team, you will work flexibly across the country to ensure delivery of the Levelling Up Place service, including working with client authorities outside your region.
