Job Description

Are you a recent Social Work graduate, or soon to be one, and looking for a Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) role to begin your Assessed and Supported Year of Employment (ASYE) in 2023?

Come and join us in Children’s Services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

We offer an excellent package of support for our NQSWs to build a strong foundation to your Social Work career including:

  • Regular high-quality individual and group supervision
  • A structured training programme mapped to the Knowledge and Skills Statement (KSS)
  • Action Learning Sets to help you translate your knowledge and skills into live practice
  • Support from a dedicated ASYE Co-ordinator during your first year of employment, alongside your manager and ASYE Assessor.

And much more…

The ASYE programme will start in September 2023 and successful candidates are required to be registered with Social Work England in order to start their learning at this time. We can offer successful candidates the opportunity to start with us in a Child Practitioner role before September, or until a Social Work England registration can be obtained, giving you the chance to settle into your team.

Within your application you will be asked to submit a CV and complete a Supporting Statement. Please use this as an opportunity to show us how your experience meets the Job Description and Person Specification. We will specifically be looking for qualities described in the About you section of this advert. We have also attached a template CV to this advert with our top tips on writing your CV!

Applications must be submitted by midnight on Sunday 26th of February 2023, with interviews taking place week commencing the 13th of March 2023.

If you have any questions please email [email protected]

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

On a reduced and protected caseload, you will work within a diverse and supportive team that will empower you to make important decisions and find creative solutions to challenging situations.

You will be completing our structured ASYE Programme which includes 24 learning and development days over the year. This includes six structured workshops specifically aimed at NQSWs, as well as regular peer supervision using the Action Learning set model, monthly support and portfolio development hubs and study days.

We have vacancies throughout Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in our Assessment, Family Safeguarding and Corporate Parenting Teams, where you will be challenged and supported in developing your core social work skills with vulnerable children and families.

We use the Family Safeguarding Model in our practice which is a strengths-based, whole family approach to children's safeguarding, supporting parents to create sustained change for themselves and their family. You will work alongside Children’s Practitioners and Specialist Adult Practitioners in domestic abuse, mental health and substance misuse as part of our multi-disciplinary approach. When you join us you will receive training on all aspects of Family Safeguarding so that you are able to practice confidently with this approach.

About you

We're looking for confident and dynamic individuals who enjoy making a difference in their local community. Analytical thinkers who are curious and spot things that others might not see, and who like to work creatively and explore possibilities. Most importantly, we are looking for people who are child centred, committed to relationship-based, reflective practice and to achieving the best outcomes for our children and families.

Are you:

  • A recent Social Work graduate, or graduating in or before the Summer of 2023?
  • Highly motivated, tenacious, and passionate about delivering quality support to children and families?
  • Able to work from a variety of locations and travel countywide independently, including to areas which may not be covered by public transport?

Then this is the job for you!
