What are we looking for?
The Marshall Group Head Office Team is looking to recruit a bright and motivated Trainee Accountant to make a difference, adding value whilst training for a career in finance. The role will support the various activities undertaken by the team and is expected to evolve with the individual, as they progress through their training.
The role will mainly work alongside the Group Management Account and the Head of Treasury with areas of responsibility outlined below. Activities will flex during the year and with the teams priorities. The successful individual will display a wiliness to learn and to grow into more complex areas as they progress.
Main areas of role
Financial Accounting

Posting of purchase and sales invoices for three companies
-
Preparation of monthly payment runs
-
Review of expense claims
-
VAT returns and reconciliations
-
Agreement of inter-co matrix
-
Posting of cash-book and monthly bank reconciliations for multi currency bank accounts
-
Preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations
-
Preparation of main head office management accounts, forecast and budgets (this will develop over time)
-
Supporting finance team in preparing consolidated year end and interim accounts
-
Drafting of statutory accounts and support during the year end audit
Management Accounting
-
Preparation of Management Accounts, analysing spend and reporting to cost centre owners
-
Assisting in the preparation of forecasts, budgets and information needed in quarterly business reviews
-
Preparing ad-hoc reports from the Cognos database
-
Office of National Statistics returns and other submissions on behalf of the Group
Tax
-
Analysis work for corporation tax returns
-
Posting of tax journals
-
Reconciling and clearing group relief balances
-
Involvement in IXBRL tagging work
Treasury
-
Maintenance of the Group’s banking and treasury platforms, management of Group’s signatories in accordance with Board mandate and updating the banking mandates
-
Assisting with documentation with regard to opening and closing accounts, know your client and other banking requirements
-
Administration of the company credit cards
-
Consolidation of cash forecasting and Group analysis
-
Monitor cash balances to ensure interest receipts are maximised
-
Process FX transactions as required
-
Monitor cash balances to ensure approved overdraft limits are not exceeded
-
Inputting of payments
Pension Schemes
-
Cash book postings and bank reconciliations for a pension scheme
-
Tax returns as required
-
Preparation of audit files for the pension schemes
-
Provide support for the audit process
-
Ad-hoc pension projects
Charitable Trust
-
Maintain cash book and prepare bank reconciliations
-
Processing of authorised payments
-
Collation and maintenance of donation requests
-
Prepare and issue responses to requests
-
Update Charity dashboard and issue to Trustees
-
Input into the audit and final accounts process
-
Collation of information for regulatory returns
Apply if you have most of the following:
-
The ability and desire to learn. Finance related qualification or experience would be an advantage but training towards an appropriate finance qualification will be provided;

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and be able to use those tools to manipulate data and draw conclusions;
-
Good communication skills, both written and verbal; and experience of working with others as well as a commitment to delivering quality outputs and working to deadlines.
