Job Description

Are you ready for a new challenge in a different kind of healthcare provision? Then come
and join our nursing team at Queen Alexandra College; a values driven, national
independent and residential Specialist College based in Harborne, Birmingham. We are
looking for an enthusiastic qualified nurse with a passion for delivering the best possible
care and support to young adults with physical, learning and neuro-disabilities.

If you are looking for a role with variety, where your input will help our students to get the
best out of their time at college, then this could be the job for you. Our small nursing team
work alongside curriculum, residential and therapy staff to support students to manage
their health needs. As well as direct contact with students on a daily basis to administer
medication and treatment, you will be involved in guidance and training for staff,
completing assessments and care plans and will liaise with parents, carers and other health professionals, as required.

With the benefit of a regular daytime working pattern Monday to Friday (although you may be expected to do some working outside of these hours to support with training, as
required), our nursing team work 43 weeks a year. The majority of hours are worked during term time, with four weeks worked across the summer break (with an opportunity to work more flexibly across the summer break, as per the needs of the service).

In addition to the above the post holder will also benefit from College holidays, (Christmas,
Easter and half term breaks), free onsite gym membership and support for training and
development. QAC has on site car parking and good local public transport links. QAC has

NMC registered nurse (RN/RNLD/RMN).

Skills and Expertise
Knowledge of a range of health needs and clinical interventions including epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, anaphylaxis, PEG feeding, intermittent catheterisation, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and tissue viability/pressure area/wound care.

Knowledge of person centered, outcomes focused approaches in delivery of care.

Aware of accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse-led service, in line with the NMC Code of Conduct.

Be able to carry out detailed health assessments and write reports outlining the support required.

To be able to produce a range of health protocols and guidelines in collaboration with families/carers, students, health professionals and staff

Be competent in delivering all aspects of medication management within a health care setting.

Ability to communicate effectively, and demonstrate excellent communication skills: verbal, listening & written, with a wide range of individuals including, students, their family and medical professionals.

Participate in the provision of support and training to staff and students about health needs and interventions.

Have an awareness of Ofsted and CQC standards.

Basic IT knowledge.

Excellent written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail

Manage workload confidently and adhere to deadlines

Experience and Knowledge

Experience of working with people with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and mental health conditions.

Involvement in the implementation and evaluation of health protocols and clinical guidelines.

Experience of carrying out audits.

Experience of providing enhanced first aid procedures in line with current practice.

Experience of working with minimal supervision and the ability to make sound clinical judgements within limited timescales.
