We are looking for a Scuba Diver to join our team at Blue Planet Aquarium.
Join the Dive team at the Blue Planet Aquarium where you will have the chance to experience a huge collection of fish, including one of Europe’s largest collection of sharks in a huge 3.8 million litre tank with one of the longest underwater viewing tunnels in the world!
Job Description
You will enhance the visitor experience by raising awareness of animal welfare, zoological strategies, conservation, and education.
You will be enthusiastic in delivering the highest standard of exhibits and dive operation throughout Blue Planet Aquarium (BPA) ensuring animal welfare is your priority as you feed the animals and maintain their tank to the highest standards, whilst also taking part in the Aqua Theatre shows enhancing the visitor’s expectations.

All dive experiences such as Discover Scuba and Bubble makers are paid at a fixed rate in addition to your hourly paid hours and following successful completion of probationary period there is the opportunity to progress within your PADI certification rating through the “All Aboard Scheme”.
Duties/ Responsibilities
Diving
- Scuba diving for shows maintenance, training and collection
- Ensuring that all dive related paperwork is completed by the end of each day
- Supervising and dive tending for shows, training, maintenance, collecting dives and compressor usage
- Instructing or assisting Shark Encounters, Shark Dives, Shark Awareness, Junior Shark Encounters, and other functions to PADI and HSE approved standards
- Adherence to Health and Safety regulations
- Highlight to Dive Officer the expiry date of diving medical one month before that date and ensure its renewal.
- Keeping dive logs for all staff divers and public divers
- Cleaning and maintenance of scuba equipment
- To satisfactorily complete dive courses agreed with Dive Officer
Display Maintenance
- Assisting with maintenance of main tank and its filtration system
- Assisting with making of salt water
- Cleaning sand trap
- Helping to prepare the aquarium for opening when required
General Maintenance
- Cleaning changing rooms
- Keeping dive equipment room tidy
- Maintain clean, tidy and safe standards of food preparation and public diver areas
- Food preparation for the main tank as directed by Dive Officer/Curator
Customer Service
- Responsible for always delivering world class customer service.
- To be courteous, pleasant and approachable at all times when dealing with the public in order to establish a lasting positive image of the aquarium
- To maintain a high satisfaction rate for diving courses
Other Duties
- To impart knowledge to the rest of the BPA team if deemed necessary and to assist in the training of work experience and work-based students
- To actively sell BPA Dive Products to general visitors/divers
- Ensure aqua theatre shows/feeds are on time
Requirements
- PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
- Hold an up-to-date HSE medical.
- You will have knowledge of diving equipment to ensure correct maintenance is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- You will have significant experience as a diver both in practice and in theory and be able to demonstrate this through your personal dive logbook.
- You will need to be a good communicator with the ability to deliver diving briefs, create amazing guest interaction and dive experiences and have a working knowledge of the correct use of dive equipment.
- A good understanding of dive profiles, dive logging and dive theory to ensure dives are within company policies will also be required.
- A flexible approach to working hours is also essential.
- Strong personal integrity with an innate desire to work in an ethical manner
- Availability to work in shifts including weekends
Availability
To submit a minimum availability of 39 days per ASPRO calendar quarter, with a minimum of 12 days per month.
To be available a minimum of 3 days a week, of which 2 days should cover Friday, Saturday or Sunday in line with the needs of the business.
To attend a minimum of 4 departmental/diver meetings per annum to keep up to date with product knowledge, comply with health and safety regulations to ensure you carry out your role effectively and safely.
