The Opportunity
SMC are on the search for motivated applicants with a genuine enthusiasm for engineering and a drive for customer satisfaction. Based in Milton Keynes you will be working in our Sales Engineering Group who play a vital role in providing our customer base with comprehensive product support in all sectors of industry.
This is a diverse role that will provide many challenges but will also offer gratification in assisting personal and company growth.
What will the apprentice be doing?

Experience different manufacturing teams within a large production factory

Work safely, complying with health & safety legislation, regulations, environmental compliance procedures and systems

General engineering and manufacturing principles with additional focus on electrical and electronic methods and techniques

Develop effective interpersonal skills in communicating both technical and non-technical information

Make a technical contribution to the manufacture or maintenance of products or systems

Engaging with customers to support them with product queries and helping to increase their knowledge through training and support

Provision of technical support to customers who have purchased our electrical biased products. You will learn how to understand their issue and troubleshoot potential causes and find solutions

Be involved in how and why we rigorously test SMC products for quality and longevity
Work safely, complying with health & safety legislation, regulations, environmental compliance procedures and systems
In the first year you will spend up to 3 days per week at a training provider (either Milton Keynes College or MAKE UK) undertaking your studies and will be work based the rest of the time
About you
You should be organised with the ability to manage your own time and workload. With an inquisitive mind to research, investigate and troubleshoot solutions for customers.
With good communication skills (written and verbal), youll also be adaptable and keen to develop your own and team performance.
You value the importance of good customer service and be at home in a collaborative working environment and tick that team player box. Oh, and good timekeeping is a must!
Entry Requirements
You will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs grades 4-9 (A-C) which should include Mathematics, English language and a Science or Technical subject at grade 6 or above.
Training provided
Level 3 Engineering Technician with Technical Support Technician Pathway.

Future prospects
Following completion of your apprenticeship, you will use the skills and knowledge gained to support customers who have purchased our products either on their site or via telephone/online methods. You may also be involved in hosting customer visits to our offices or joining colleagues at sales events.
SMC champion employee development and following successful completion of your level 3, would be happy to support you on to a level 4 qualification to continue your development with a plan to successfully move forward in the business.
