Orthonika is a spin-out from Imperial College London, developing a synthetic total meniscus replacement for the knee joint. Orthonika’s revolutionary meniscus implant has a unique anatomical design that mimics the structure and function of the native meniscal tissue. It is designed to restore the biomechanical function of the native meniscus, allowing patients to return to an active lifestyle, an option currently unavailable to patients with irreparable meniscus injury, hence fulfilling a gap of high unmet clinical need. Job Description
Orthonika is seeking an outstanding Design/Biomedical Engineer to support pre-clinical product development and human translation work for its meniscus implant. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for key aspects of product design, modelling and testing, reporting to the CTO and working closely with a wider team of engineers and surgeons. The role is a rare opportunity for an ambitious technical candidate to be exposed to the start-up environment, potentially including meetings with partners, investors and suppliers. Candidates will have access to biomechanical testing laboratories and state of the art manufacturing facilities, currently based in the Biomechanics Lab in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Imperial College London.

Main tasks and responsibilities of the role include:

Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have a strong engineering background and thrive in a hands-on entrepreneurial environment. They must be a critical thinker, who is able to work in a small team to support the company across the entire spectrum of product development and testing. They must have a demonstrated passion for bioengineering. The ideal candidate for this position would have a strong design background ideally with relevant lab-based experience in orthopaedics and biomechanics.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

Compensation
In the range of £36,000-£42,000 plus discretionary bonus, depending on candidate experience and skillset.
