Job Description

We require a laboratory assistant to join our microbiology team. The post will involve supporting the department in providing diagnostic services and includes include data entry; manual, semi-automated and automated technical procedures; dealing with telephone enquiries; equipment maintenance; stock control; and laboratory waste disposal.

Maintains awareness of changes and developments within the section/department.
Receives and handles a wide range of enquiries, in person or by telephone, including matters of a confidential or a sensitive nature.
Basic communication with patients and staff ensuring compliance with confidentiality rules, data protection act etc.
Issues results in accordance with departmental SOPs.
Attends meetings as directed

Undertakes work according to Standard Operating Procedures.
Undertakes routine maintenance and troubleshooting of general laboratory equipment.
Undertakes preparatory work to support complex manual and automated analytical processes.
Checks all samples before processing for identification, status and suitability for diagnostic investigations
Undertakes complex manual, semi-automated and automated procedures under indirect supervision.
Prepares samples for sending to external reference laboratories.
